So, what should Schaap be doing at this point?

So far there has been only one real suggestion as to what Schaap should be doing with his time.  The suggestion was "volunteering in chapel".  Others have mentioned "learning humility, repenting, and time (quietly)".  While these 3 are the most important, these are internal issues.

Schaap is in prison.  He has to be doing something with his time.  In his letter he mentioned several things that he was doing.  Several on the FFF were a bit critical of these things.  I'm interested.  Schaap is locked up in prison for several years.  What would be acceptable in your eyes for him to be doing?  I believe the one suggestion was fantastic.  Surely we can come up with more than this.  I'm sure the days are long.

Statistically, those that volunteer in the chapel or are active in some type of "church" while in prison, there is less likely of a chance for repeat offenders.  If he volunteers in the Chapel, not only will it help him spiritually but also keep him busy.

Fantastic idea!

And it is volunteer, no money in his account! Personally I think the man that is paying him to do his blog it is not a good thing! Although I understand he needs a few toiletries, but that $ should come from family. Shame he pays for a "trainer" Although I have never heard of that being an option!!!

I think the quotes should be on "pays" instead of "trainer."

I have no idea if my thoughts on this are correct or not, but I'm guessing the amount of money paid is probably pretty minimal.  You can probably find guys that excel in different areas of life.  I'm sure they need money.

Maybe someone here can educate us on how money works in prison. JS's parents are well off and probably supply or would supply him with enough money to meet his needs. If so, why does he earn money from an outside source? Isn't there some type of earnings (however meager they are) from a job in the prison? Also, there have been conflicting statements on if inmates are allowed email or internet access. Maybe this needs to be in a different thread.

Those are very good questions.  I look forward to the answers.

Any money that is sent to Schaap is put in his account. You get a lot of scamming from inmates that send letters out to people asking for money. Seems like Schaaps letter was a little bit of asking for money in a subtle way!

My plan calls for Rocky to go undercover and get the real scoop of the inner workings of "the joint".

As has already been mentioned, all incoming money goes into a personal account. From that account an inmate may purchase things from a commissary. The actual items can then be used as currency inside the prison (cigarettes, food items, toiletries, stamps, envelopes, etc...).

No actual money is allowed inside the prison among the inmates themselves - it is considered contraband and will be immediately confiscated and a prisoner will lose precious good time or even "catch another case."

For those inmates who have little or no money in their accounts, Raider is correct in assuming that other skills can be used as payment.
