I don't know why I am posting this since I have never been to HAC, but the new pastor is John Wilkerson.  I hope the church learns from mistakes and is led in a good direction.

I read that he accepted the call and starts February 17th. From what I know and have also heard of the Wilkerson family, including John's siblings, their spouses, and Mother, I am encouraged for FBC in their choice for this new era.

Thank you JrChurch for letting us know ...........we listen to one of his sermons and we are so excited for his decision :)

I knew Matt Wilkerson when I was a Crown. Is John his brother?

If John has the same character and attitude as Matt, then I am happy for the folks at FBCH. Matt is a good man.

I know little of John Wilkerson but I like the choice for several reasons. First and most importantly, he is an outsider. Second, he is an outsider who shares a common background under Bro. Hyles and who has mostly similar positions on both the major/minor things. Third, he has experience leading a wounded church to thrive. Fourth, he has experience leading a substantial church. Fifth, his demeanor is totally different than their current culture of arrogance and hostility.

Speaking personally, about five years ago I cut my ties with JS and thus with my alma mater by default. It was very sad decision but one I felt I needed to make for a variety of reasons. I am a little more than cautiously optimistic about this choice, b/c it may mean I can re-establish those ties. IOW, I plan to give FBCH/HAC one last best chance b/c of Wilkerson with a whole lot of healthy skepticism thrown in on the side.

I cut ties with my former employer (the church) because they wanted Schaap and the direction he was taking them.  I will keep an eye on them, but won't hold my breath.  There is a lot that has changed since you Graduated, Tom, and it isn't all Schaap's doing.  Still, the JW pick was a pleasant surprise...like they are trying.

My husband was surprised to read some things he didn't know about JS being in south Florida we don't hear alot. My pastor is a graduate but he has always followed God and not man..........

Yes, Matt is John's brother.  I agree with your assessment of Matt too.

He does seem to have been doing a decent job; I wish he would clean house and apologize for the errors in the past, but otherwise... pretty good.

While apologizing for the errors of the past administrations may seem like a great idea, I don't know how he would ever get all of the facts straight.  The Schaap situation is public knowledge.  i'm not sure how or why Wilkerson would apologize for that situation.  Going back from there I'm sure there are a lot of "he said, she said" situations that would never be able to get to the bottom of.

IMO, Wilkerson needs to be aware of the accusations of the past and just move forward.  On the other hand, if he feels staff members should have handled the Schaap situstion differently he can always "drain the swamp".  ;)

A public or printed article in which the church makes an apology would be appropriate. But I see no need for the present pastor to account for mistakes, sins or the like.

I know for a fact that Wilkerson has been made aware of some of the 'fall in grace" that DH had, but chooses (for whatever reason) not to make waves with his current staff members like Eddie Lapina who continue to cover up what DH did.  All in the name of damage control for the cause of Christ.

Hogwash.

Why should he apologize for the failures of the past administration? Does the Trump administration have to apologize to Japan for dropping the two nukes during Truman's administration? Nope, unlike that sad boy Obama that was thinking about apologizing.

Wilkerson should learn from our President, blame the past administrations and use it to move forward with his own agenda.

On several occasions I have heard Eddie publicly acknowledge what Dave did and the fact that it was not dealt with as it should have been. He has also discussed how damaging it was to his fellow teens including some in his own family. He has several sermons he has preached around the country in which he discusses the hurt Dave caused and the scares it left. You have to remember Eddie was not in a leadership position at that time and had little to do with what happened or how it was handled.

Glad to know someone has fessed up, somewhat.

Good point.

But, maybe he should have cleaned house like Trump has done...
