My parents both were smokers. Dad was pipes and mom was Marlboro Light 100s. I got married and moved out when I was twenty. A few years ago I got a new PCP and in the initial appointment he asked if I was ever a smoker. No sir but my parents were. I was twenty when I moved out. He put down that I had quit smoking at age twenty and refuses to change my health history in my medical chart.
Mom and dad quit smoking not too long after I left home and both lived well into their eighties. Now at 63 my health is nowhere near as good as theirs was at this age. Not because of second hand smoke in my youth but because of poor diet and lifestyle choices on my part.
