Join me today in fasting and prayer for the 115 Cardinals seeking God's Will in a new leader

Too funny.

One time while out on visitation, I met a young neo-Catholic who wanted to know why us Baptists don't seem to like the Catholics.  My response:  "Oh, I don't know.  Maybe it has something to do with the roughly 1300 years that the Catholics were trying to kill every Baptist they could find?"  He thought that made sense.

While I'm not a supporter of modern Catholicism and do not support them in any way, What you say is a lie. There has never been a group of "baptist" that existed for over a thousand years. Catholics did murder "Christians" and "baptist" have no claim to EVERYTHING CHRISTIAN. Such is total nonsense. Modern Baptist have their roots in the anabaptist and have only been around for a few hundreds years. What you believe is nothing more than a figment of some man's imagination. Congregationalism has existed for thousands of years and many of those mentioned had absolutely nothing to do with being a "baptist".

I fail to see what's wrong in praying that anyone seeks God's will...

...and, yes, the Baptists haven't been around for anywhere near 1300 years. (Nor were the Ana-Baptists' hands clean of the blood of those they disagreed, like virtually every religious and political flavor since the dawn of time.)

What he *meant* to tweet...

Join me today in fasting and prayer for the 115 Cardinals seeking God's Will in abandoning a sacerdotal religion that places salvation in the laver of water

;)

In my comparing and contrasting Scripture and official Catholic doctrine...I might wonder 'which god'.
Should we also fast and pray for the Mormon's when they seek their next 'supreme leader'?
Or do we fast and pray for the Buddhist of Tibet when they seek the next Dalai Lama?

Rick Warren's quest for PC affirmation sometimes gets the best of him....

The Triune God of the Bible: Father, Son, and Spirit...God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...

Yes.

Seems to be a pretty Biblical response to me.

And for the Church of Satan when they choose a new high priest or priestess.
Or the for the Masons when they choose a new Grand Poobah?

Being a true freebird requires one to be a contortionist.....Hallelujah!  :o

Should you pray for your brothers? For your neighbors? For your enemies?

For hundreds of years, the papacy violently persecuted all true Christians, some of whom had Baptist leanings- many of whom did not.

What Rick Warren is praying for is that God will bless a conclave of devils meeting together for the purpose of picking the next successor to fill the seat of anti-christ.

Dude, take a Valium. It was a play on words, not a lesson in church history.

Great! I think they should seek God's will, too.

Unfortunately, they're not going to find it by seeking the next King of Catholicism.

'Congregationalism has existed for thousands of years'.  Separatist assemblies that believe only the Word of God, and require A public profession of faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, called Baptism (by immersion , following Christ's example)  were invented last week,....got it.  When is your nap time over?

And here I thought you guys would jump on me for going door-to-door on visitation!

I do not agree with the English Separatists Descent theory.  Though it is the semi-official view of the Southern Baptists, I believe it has flaws.  It is only the most recent of theories (recent history is usually revised history) - it is not the view of those living in the 1600's or even the 1500's.  It claims that the Baptists are descendants of Catholicism.  It makes no room for people of Baptists heritage before the Separatists.  Also, history records the Baptists in England before the Catholics even arrived on the island to become Anglican to become Separatists.

The name Baptist has not always been the name given to a group of people holding Baptists doctrine, principle and pattern.  However, the true church did exist outside of Catholic.  I am not so concerned about the name given to the group as I am the doctrine, principle and pattern of the church.

Definitely, some ana-baptsits were not Baptists.

no.  I am not going to ask God to help the great deceiver to turn aside multiplied millions to another Gospel, which is not the Gospel.

I would pray that God would confound their work and that somehow through this time, people around the world might see the Catholic church for what it is - a man made religion of rituals deceiving the hearts of many.

Of course we should...but we shouldn't pray for success in their sin.
Do I pray for a drug dealer to score a better grade of pot?

Do you believe the Catholic Church to be an arm of Evangelicalism or an apostate religion?

And, to give perspective to my original post, I am not a warren basher....I listened to one of his messages last week and it really helped and encouraged me. He does frustrate me when he doesn't use his well earned platform to speak the truth in love. I pray for the decline and demise of the Catholic Church and their influence in damning souls. I don't think that's what Warren had in mind.

I didn't realize Warren was that specific.

Neither.
