Some of the stuff we (as a youth group) did was pretty funny. Other stuff, pretty messed up. The counselor in our cabin was a HAC student named Oscar. Don't remember his last name. There were several times he had to leave in the middle of the night to "get help" in controlling our group. Remember, this is with our own church counselors within the same cabin (Lapina, Cantway, Engstrom, etc). From capturing the ducks and letting them loose on Oscar's bed in the middle of the night to saran-wrapping the toilet on another counselor to loading Engstrom's sleeping bag with shaving cream while he was asleep, to the throwing of the "little red balls" after dark, one dared not sleep during the night. However, the trashing of the buses (don't know who did them but do know they were in our group) was well over-the-top.

Sorry to hear about your sister. I really hope she was able to eventually excell despite not being allowed back due to our behavior.

Stinkin' HBers!!!

Although I was in elementary school, I do recall the falling out but not the reasons why. That is when the church bought Hyles-Duckles Bible Camp.

However, BRR thought they would give us another shot my senior year at HB. It was a train wreck (I was there). Our kids were arrogant, trash-talking, dominated the sporting events (boy events), dissing the counselors, sneaking through the camp at night and the last straw was the trashing of a couple of church buses.

What a week that was! From what I understand, it anchored down the decision several years earlier that BRR was not the place for FBC kids.

The true mark of a stinkin' HBer!!  :)

It took YEARS and whole groups of people telling me before I realized that I had a bad case of Hammond Pride.

Try asking what happened at the Bill Rice Ranch when DH led the Youth group down there.

It was the last time FBCH was welcome at the Bill Rice Ranch.

Bill Rice had a permanent falling out with JH over what happened and asked JH to never come back to the ranch.

My sister was crushed, she really loved the place, had learned sign language, and begged to go back to the BRR.

Wow! This sounds exactly like a boys SS class I taught a couple of years ago. If I was ever gone and they needed a substitute teacher they always had two come! And these were fbc and hb kids not City Baptist.

One of the weeks I was gone one of the boys happened to throw a condom on the table. These teachers came unglued and screamed and preeeched the devil out of them. Well all it did was egg them on to do more. I would have just called him an idiot or something and put it away than call a lot of attention to it. And please don't get me wrong. I have no special talent with working with some of these kids. But they were Exactly what I used to be.

Another one of these boys I know for a fact had a lot of trouble at home. One Sunday, and I don't even know what he did, a deacon came up to him and was screaming at him calling him a punk, and that he had always been a punk, and he would never be anything but a punk. These kids know if you dislike them. And if you dislike them and they know it they will never listen.

That's probably what I would have done.  I've found the best way to handle shocking behavior is not to act shocked and give it very little attention.  It takes all the fun out of it, and most of the time they respect you more for it.

I understand that there are people who truly accepted Christ from the Bus Ministry of FBC but how many others will spend eternity thinking they said a prayer? Even if they said it 10 times.

What amazes me is the acceptance of so many lost being covered up because some where found.  The same people who would offer this as an excuse would never accept it from others outside their circle of IFB.  Case in point - Billy Graham, CCM, Rick Warren....
