marines practicing a beach assault at bellows beach oahu.... lots of man-o-war jelly fish in that water and on the beach at bellows.... lots of unfired 556 blanks buried in the sand there too.... every now and then a marine in training will decide he doesn;t want to clean his rifle .... so he just won;t fire it... but his rifle magazine has to be empty at the end of the day so at some point while on the beach - when nobody is looking - he ejects the unfired cartridges into the sand and buries them... when the empty brass is collected later nobody counts it to see how many shots the marines actually fired... .... . gotta be careful building a camp fire there... more than one campfire has gone off like the 4th of july ..
marines on another training exercise going over the side to "fin in" to bellows beach - using rebreather dive gear.... the idea is to leave no bubbles while underwater... thus being undetectable.... .. . 2 different models of scuba fins in this picture.... both made by scuba-pro..... the old school lighting jets on the left. .. (like my dad uses).... .. and a new model favored by a few divers on the right..... (the ones with the white S on them).....
.
there are a few of those here - mostly remote parts of the island and always near a beach... . we use them like landmarks when giving people directions....
