President Jimmy Carter

are you including me in that "pot shot" declaration joe?........ i am a part of that generation too.... actually a few years younger than huk.... ..according to some here i don;t read english very well.... .. but i think i read what you posted clearly enough.....

..i always thought a "pot shot" was taken with a rifle and aimed at one person.... ... but apparently some would rather use an indescriminate shotgun blast and take out his own friends as well..... :(.. ..anger is like fire.. and ceases to be a servant when it becomes your master.... . i think yours got away from you... .
With every group there are exceptions...you are one. There was no "anger" in my statement. I seldom get angry, though I do become direct and pointed. So, YOUR assessment may be as hasty as you claim mine has been. 😉🤠

Don’t worry, I think he was referring to me. In all fairness, I probably got a little too annoying with the Jimmy Carter thread…but at least it got people talking on here! 😬
At least they're not talking in tongues! LOL And you're right, I was talking about you. 😉

I think Trump’s vision is a little shortsighted. Even Bill O’ Reilly ranks James Buchanan above Joe Biden, and he says it’s not even close. Carter didn’t even make his list, and I don’t think anyone can accuse Bill of having a liberal bias.

I find it interesting that LBJ made the list. I have always been leery of his presidency but I was too young to remember it. The earliest president I remember is his successor, Nixon. TBH, I have to rely on others' assessments of LBJ and Nixon. On the other hand, by the time Carter was in office, I was old enough to observe for myself. My opinion of Carter didn't deteriorate until about 1979 when inflation was running rampant (no comparison to the 2020s) and the hostage crisis along with the botched attempt to rescue them. When Reagan ran against Carter in 1980, he was being branded as a war monger by the media. Apparently, Iran was buying into the hype because as it became apparent that they were going to have to deal with Reagan, only then was meaningful progress being made in that crisis. The hostages were on their way home within a half hour of Reagan's inauguration. Being 15-16 years old, I saw for myself what went down.

I'm sure the other historical presidents had their problems and I won't argue with Bill... He's done way more research on the topic than I will likely do. My opinion on Carter is subjective but it's based on personal memory.

One thing I'll agree with Bill on... Carter and Biden aren't even close to comparable.

Yeah, it’s tough to grade presidents who weren’t around during our lifetimes, and even then, I think age plays a factor. For example, my view of Clinton was from the lens of a teenage boy. Would I have viewed him differently if I’d been in my 40s at the time?

In the case of Carter, I run into a lot of people who were “just old enough” to form an opinion, but often aren’t old enough to remember what things were like when his predecessor (Ford) was president, much less Nixon, whom Ford had to take over for. I’ve noticed people who are old enough to remember Ford and Nixon are often less harsh on Carter because they understand the economic and political situations had already gone downhill then.

Anyway, I can definitely say Biden has to be right at the top. Carter was largely an ineffective president, but everyone seems to agree it wasn’t for a lack of effort or desire. I think many people believe Biden was either corrupt or just a puppet president who wasn’t mentally competent to even be in office to begin with.
