Watch this clip. This guy is a multi-millionaire. Piper is heartbroken over him. Piper has told me that one of his other sons is also an unbeliever.

When he was pastoring, many told him he was unqualified based on Titus 1, interpretatively meaning "believers"
Titus 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

What say ye?

Just shooting from the hip...

If the kids are unruly while they are still under the authority of their parents, then I'd say there may be cause to evaluate a pastor/elder's qualifications but each case is different and one cannot make a blanket judgement.

When a child is on their own, the parents cannot be held accountable for their decisions.

On the flip side, a total boor of a man can be in a pastoral position and his kids turn out to be gracious and upstanding believers.

I'm confused. Piper is a Calvinist. This is all preordained. So his sons weren't "chosen". Deal with it.

You were predestined to be dumb. I'm a Calvinist, but people who post foolish glib answers instead of substantial ones make me sad, because they're stupid. Deal with that.

Abraham is a fully grown man and will stand before God while his father is watching!

I am sure Pastor John Piper did everything he could to raise his kid right. Now that he is grown, it is out of his hands! There may be some sort of "failure" on his part for which he will have to give account but there is no doubt that he is heartbroken and continues to grieve over his reprobate son!

I double dog dare you to show me a Calvinist who would think such a thing about their children or anyone else! God is sovereign over who he saves but Piper is responsible for how he raised his children (as we all are). Abraham will not be able to stand before God, point his finger at him, and declare that "I didn't believe because you didn't elect me!" Abraham has been commanded of God to turn to him in repentance and faith and if he rejects Christ and dies in his sins, he does so on his own free will!

An elder in our church told me that he was worried about his son and he related how he told him that in Heaven, God will "Wipe all the tears from our eyes" meaning that there likely will not be any remembrance of children and other relatives who are not among them because they died in their sins. Therefore, those who die in their sins will be forgotten and forsaken for all of eternity without anyone shedding a single tear for them! For me, this would be far worse than the actual flames!

That is my entire conclusion. What Piper did was bring it to the elder council and allowed them to make the judgment. He said he believed that the word in Titus did not mean "believing" and children meant those in his care, not adults. However he allowed that if the church wanted, he'd resign. They unanimously voted to keep him.

John Piper a fundamentalist?........................o_O

Maybe it was Piper's buddy Gregy Boyd who influenced the boy

I have heard this as well. He remains open and transparent about it and my heart does go out to him regarding this!
