Jack Schaap's fall and the future of the IFB movement!

As to the OP:
Will this debacle change the IFB movement, and if so, how will it change?

I'm not sure it will precipitate change, after all, it's happened in the movement before, it's happened at FBH before, and it was ignored. Perhaps the seemingly decisive action by the deacons says change has come....but we're they forced to fire Schaap because it was going to be made public anyway?

The IFB movement was already in trouble and decline before this....and this simply illustrates the point.
If this happens at supposedly one of the headwater ministries of the IFBs, what is going on in the streams and creeks of the movement?

IF we don't begin to clean up our act, we are doomed to extinction....at least as far as effective ministry is concerned!
We need to stop having glorified Sunday Schools and calling them colleges.
We need to open our leadership structure to include accountability and a broader role for our lay leadership....not simply give them titles!
We need to begin to preach expositionally and stop making our preferences our doctrine!
We need to stop arguing over which Bible is THE word of God and start obeying it....any version will do to begin with!

Where am I wrong?

The comma after your third "change" should either be a semi-colon or period. ;)

From an outsider's perspective...

I think you're right in all of that.

The IFB movement if there is such a a thing is a divided one. You can be sure there are a few IFB people who are critical and not surprised about Jack Schaap. I know one has gone so far as to say that this isn't likely the first time Jack Schaap has been in adulterous relationship but only the first he has admitted to.

I believe the IFB movement is split and splintered....and it is small to begin with....relatively speaking.
If the response from the different factions is more of the same except we need to re affirm our standards.....it's doomed to repeat this disaster. IMHO

First Baptist Church of Hammond should really get back to their historical roots - Pre-Hyles - By this I don't mean they should become Southern Baptist or American Baptist again but I know those denominations were at one time more Biblical at least in practice than what FBC Hammond is now. I think some current members think that Jack Hyles started First Baptist church from what I've read in two national/international news sources - one secular and one Christian.  I wonder how many even know off the top of their head who was the first pastor of FBCH or even who was pastor before Jack Hyles in 1959.

I posted this same thread on the Hyles Forum over there....but they don't seem interested.
I think radical change is needed, but those in the movement are loathe to even think about such.....

OK...
Tony Hutson is the defacto homiletics professor for all IFB colleges. Bless God yeah!
John Hamblin is the fashion consultant for all IFB preachers....the Swedish knit consultant!
All IFB colleges and churches get as close to Ruckman as we can without being tarnished by Rucks baggage!
And continue to shun Greek and Hebrew, Eschatology in our colleges!
Soulwinning I II III IV more than qualifies our preachers!

Go back to the old paths....Pastors School in March, Youth Conference in July and Christian Womanhood Conferences whenever God ordained they should be held!

GET THE DRUMS OUT OF OUR IFB CHURCHES!!

SACRASM OFF!

Of the 2 posts I made suggesting changes, which is he most likely to happen in the movement?

Tarheel, I like your first set of suggestions. But not being IFB, or for that matter Baptist at all, I don't get a vote except on this forum.

Purchase an ad in USA Today. List the names of every pastor who attends the preaching conference and the church they represent.

Promote a "kiss your kid" kiss-in event at the conference.

Encourage FBCH to make ministries for all of the attendees and kiss-in participants. That way, we will know where the pedophiles are.

Schaap may be IFB, but he and his ilk have had no influence on our church.  I have never met the man, nor heard him preach, except today on the web, and I can see I haven't missed anything.  In fact, our members would have thrown him out long ago, given what I have heard him preach.  I have seen his kind before, and the one thing they all seem to have in common is arrogance.  I mean arrogance from the pulpit.  Like they can do no wrong.

I think I've been on facebook too long...I found myself wanting to *like* your comment.  :)  Anyway, completely agree with your post.

Here is a response from an IFB leader.
I wasn't aware some had separated from JS over his false doctrine. I was aware some took issue with his KJB stance.
Is this true or is Chappell exaggerating this to separate the movement as a whole from Schaap after the fact?

It's probably true. Was Schaap's name ever mentioned since "some years ago" up until now? My guess is it started with the sexy communion teaching. He's certainly not part of his minsitry127.com nor has he spoken at any of the conferences at Lancaster. Even in my church the name Schaap is never uttered though his predecessor's name has on occasion.
