It's evidently true, no good deed goes unpunished...sigh!

You could make him listen to one of TRB's sermons.  The threat of having to listen again, should cure him for sure. :)

Tough Situation.  Many years ago in a church we were in I had one of the Christian schoolteachers ask if he could borrow my lawnmower. I didn't want to but his grass was higher than a giraffe and I thought of the passage in the NT that says to give to him that asks of thee and don't even look for repayment. Well, guess what? He didn't return my mower. I went by to get it and he had borrowed it to someone else! When I went to the second party it turns out that one of them broke it. I can't afford to take the Bible that literally. (not to mention that my wife was furious!)

another hunter, i know from the archery range, .. (but don;t even know that well)... asked if he could borrow my bow once so he could try hunting a pig with a traditional longbow.....  i was ready to loan him my old one with no problem.. .. . but he wanted to borrow my new one..  my martin savannah!...  :o ... ..  i got a really sick feeling just thinking about it.. :-[ ...  . . so i told him no..... . i felt bad about telling him no...  :-\ ....but i don;t let anyone else even shoot that bow.. . much less walk away with it....  ???... .. . oh well.... ..

Smart move. I live by the principle of not loaning something that I care about whether I would get it back. It tends to make saying yes or no easier.

I'm glad the police were finally involved in this situation. Which brings me to this question: where/when is the line drawn on illegal activity being "bad" enough for a church to actually report it? Or how severe does the crime need to be before it's reported? If he stole the entire offering plate collections the first time around, is that bad enough?

We considered that, only with Southern Gospel Music.  :D

In the past, we have had someone steal from our offering.
For us, the point wasn't punishment or getting our stuff returned, but the Christ like response to the person. Because they were a part of our church community.

We would probably have a different response if a masked bandit off the street stole the offering.
