Irony Thy Name Is Spammy

[quote author=rsc2a]Yes. No.

Jesus + nothing = salvation

False dichotomy.  God has not only appointed/ordained the salvation of souls by His Son, but the means as well, and those "means" is the preached word.  That's basic evangelical doctrine that in no way is set at odds to Sola Christus.

You said "required". The only thing "required" for salvation is Jesus.

Also the "preached word" (by man) is a means, not the means.

Gag at gnats all you wish, that reflects poorly on your ability to argue, not mine.

While the debates my OP ignited are interesting ...in this case Ransom got my point and Alayman missed it.  The OP was not about the content of his "preeching", ie...(doctrine), but the irony of Spammy calling anyone elses followers ignorant.

Both Spammy and Jack S are examples of why topical preaching without regard to the proper exegesis of a passage of Scripture is very dangerous.  There seems to be a lot of heresy being preached in Baptist churches across the nation due to this and the the misuse (and sometimes abuse) of pastoral authority.

[quote author=rsc2a]I definitely have to object to the final part (at a minimum) because Anderson clearly (at the end) does equate Jesus to the Bible (as per Izzy's complaint). Heresy, plain and simple.

Is Jesus required for salvation?  Is the word of God required for salvation?  The two statements that Anderson makes, taken at face value in the video, don't amount to bibliolatry, but are fundamentally sound principles of Christian soteriology.

As an exclusivst, I agree.  Jesus is the required object of faith.  The Word of God through the work of the Holy Spirit, is the vehicle of special revelation to this knowledge today.
