If Dr. Hyles had not passed away.......

I never sensed that Jeff Owens was disliked. He was always very kind to me. Why did people dislike him?

Jeff Owens also had the Bible clubs. That was bigger than the bus route Schaap "built". Everyone used to brag on Schaap's successful, giant bus route, but the never seemed to know that he hardly ever visited the route or rode the bus. Most of the time, Cindy u would drop him at Sibley and Indianapolis and he would ride the 2 blocks to the church loudly leading the singing as if he had been on the bus since 7am! He would jump off the bus and shake the kid's hands as they exited. I always noticed the look on their faces like they felt weird that he had just hopped on the bus 2 minutes before arriving at church and was then acting as if he was their best buddy as they got off.

He may have had his sights on Owens.

Yes, I freely admit that I'm an Owens man, but that church would be dramatically different if he had gotten that pulpit instead of Schaap. Dramatically...

Tom:  I totally agree.  Not many people liked Owens.  He had a Sweetheart Couples class and that was the only thing he was absorbed in.  Everything else was non-existent.  And we certainly didn't need another DH in his kids.  One of his sons, don't know which one was truly in real trouble with law enforcement here and where he once pastored.  We surely didn't need that - AGAIN!  His wife, well, she was another stuck on herself.  She wouldn't talk to anyone, one of the most unfriendliest persons I knew.  There were a lot of people that he took with him to WV that once they got there realized what he was and left, some of his very loyalists here!  Now that tells you something of a man when his own people that followed him left after a very short time.  Talked to one not long ago and they told me some real stories of him and why they left.

Any stories that you can tell without being specific?

Now, this is interesting...but it doesn't surprise me.

I think Gail Riplinger is more like Sarah Palin... nothing has come out about Carly to suggest a hypocritical life...

Yup, that's how the E.C. Express got down...

I think Jack Schaap would still be a teacher at HAC, and Linda Murphy would not be writing a book. And Mrs. Hyles would not be a Southern Baptist!

Schaap's true colors may still have shown themselves, but you are probably correct on all 3.

True colors, indeed.

Then, he would have been 'called' to another church and Dr. Hyles would have helped him get the new position.
