About a year ago I had a small part in the funeral of my former (and first) pastor. I was honored to speak of how this good man influenced me over the years. The interesting thing was, the pastor who delivered the eulogy evoked Jack Hyles name several times in his message; something like"Jack Hyles this...and Jack Hyles that." If you didn't know better you'd think it was Hyles' funeral.

Sitting on the platform looking out at the crowd, my perception by the look on the peoples' faces was "Jack Hyles who?"

Interesting funeral that showed me the continued stench Hyles' legacy still leaves.

Did Jack Hyles have a great influence the fellow that had passed away?

About a week ago I had a small part in the sermon of my local church. I was honored to speak of how the Word of God was applied practically to daily life. The interesting thing was, as I did so, I evoked Jack Hyles name several times in my message; something like"Jack Hyles this...and Jack Hyles that." If you didn't know better you'd think Jack Hyles taught me some very practical truths from the Word of God.

Sitting on the platform looking out at the crowd, my perception by the look on the peoples' faces was "that was a blessing."

Interesting sermon that showed me the continued blessing Hyles' legacy still leaves.

How many times did you mention Jesus in this small part?

Only if he didn't mention Jesus.  :)

Well, let's see, so far this year I've preached 90 sermons about Jesus, directly. I'm preaching through His life. I've got about another 40 sermons planned in this series. Word count on the document that holds the hundreds of pages of notes from this series indicate that 'Jesus' is found in my outline one thousand three hundred and sixty times. Hyles is mentioned six times. I think I'm good.

;)

Great.  Now what was the answer to my question?

I don't exactly recall how many times I mentioned the Lord in this man's funeral, however, one thing is certain...I didn't mention Jack Hyles' name one time. :D

Tom, r2 is annoyingly sensitive or slow to understand (some here hate the word obtuse).
He doesn't seem to 'get' metaphor, hyperbole or other figures of speech.

Yeah, I was honestly trying to answer his question, which I did, but that was probably a waste of time. The original point of my rewording of the OP was lost on him, as was my answer to his question. Oh well, par for the course around here. Now I shall get back to writing my 125th blog post on the life of Christ this year...

:D

If by "original rewording", you meant affirming the man worship common in fundamentalism,  I clearly got your point.

"I am of Paul.  I am of Hyles. I am of Apollos. Such is the talk of you spiritual infants. " -- paraphrase

I just threw up. So glad I dont attend your church. Using an unrepentant adulterer in your sermon is nothing to brag about on a board!

I'm sure you have proof of what you have said or you would not have posted it on a board.

Something you and Tom can probably agree on..... :)

Yes, it is clearly infantile of me to talk about Jesus 1300 times this year and to mention Jack Hyles six times. Silly me. I should have seen it...

<facepalm>

There is plenty of proven ammo on many issues.  I am pointed out the exact words that he posted and asking him for his proof.
