"If you think standing for a man is the same thing as standing for his sin, then...in Jesus name...you're an idiot."

On the one hand, the date on David's post is significant. July 31st. This was all fresh, emotions were running high, information was running low, spin was already happening, people were drawing lines in the sand. I know I put up a very controversial post on FB that very day, one that drew MY line in the sand.

On the other hand, David has not wavered in his complete, unequivocal support of JS even as more and more has been learned.

At the recent sentencing hearing, he was there to ensure each and every member of the Schaap family had a seat in the limited-seating courtroom -- even if that meant excluding the victim's grandmother, which pushy FBC people attempted to do.

Maybe he's a better Christian than I will ever be. We are supposed to bear one another's burdens. Love does bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, endure all things.

Well... I think I understand what he's saying, but knowing DL, I can't take from this like he probably intended it to sound. DL is a company man, will tow the company line etc etc. I've never had a bad encounter w/ him. Always kind. Always personable. However, I do remember hearing him say one time that he wanted to preach like JS, dress like JS, sit like JS, pray like JS.... you get the idea. Definitely changed my impression of him. I'm sure he's a great husband and father though and I'm not being sarcastic there:)

DL was my personal favorite singer at fbch.  I think Annie is a super lady.  I have some serious issues/questions about his FIL though!

I don't know him at all. It looks like he has a wonderful wife and very cute children so he probably has a decent family life. I know that he wrote a support letter and showed at the JS court appearances.

I am troubled by all of it but the arrogance of calling people idiots "in Jesus name" should trouble anyone that actually follows Christ. Knowing what we know now, you could easily wonder if he could possibly have thought about what he was saying:

If you think standing for the molester is the same as standing for his molesting.....

I have never heard of this individual and don't know his family (that I know of).

First: Using the name of Jesus to condemn another is flat wrong.  Why do fundies do this?  He just took the name of the Lord his God in vain.

Second: I do not know the context in which it was used.  Apparently many of you seem to think it was pertaining to JS.

Third: I would generally agree that standing for a man is not standing for his sin.  We are instructed to go to the fallen in a spirit of meekness in efforts to restore a fallen brother.  I am very thankful for pastors and caring Christians who have helped pick me up when sin had knocked me down.  These people stood for me when I could not stand and picked me up while refusing to condone my choice of sin.

Thom Kimmel is an expert con man. He conned a family member of mine out of six figures. My family member though he was legit as he was Jack Schaap endorsed.

I didn't want to say anything but I see he is STILL going to give his seminars in some churches.

Jer 9:2    Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
Jer 9:3    And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
Jer 9:4    Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
Jer 9:5    And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
Jer 9:6    Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
Jer 9:7    Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

(I knew all of this about the good Mr. Kimmel. I know of widows and powerless who were hurt financially thanks to him. I look around at church and see so many people I can't respect. Is every church like this, since we are all sinners? If I went elsewhere, would there be a honeymoon phase where I thought everything was wonderful but I would slowly discover a seedy underbelly? I agree with Jeremiah...sometimes I just want to run away from these people...I see these people, I take the Lords's Supper with them and am supposed to embrace them in love as brothers and sisters in Christ yet I feel like such a hypocrite because I have ought against them and don't know how to give the judgment to God....I shake their hands during the greeting time and all the while feel like a sellout..

And trust me, I know we are supposed to trust in the Lord and not in man...

How is that possible? Do they also teach Jack Schaap purity seminars? Why would a pastor allow Thom Kimmel to prey on his congregation? How will they feel when Kimmel is indicted?

Do you think he is going to be indicted? I have heard rumors but nothing lately.

Thom was always spouting about unbelievable rates of return on investments. He would tell of returns that would make Warren Buffet drool. Yellow flag right there! Just a couple of years ago he had a radio program and said that he and his wife were making 12% on their money. I asked quite a few people who were either in the investment business or who were knowledgeable and nobody could believe it. I then talked to a deacon who said that Thom took a divorced ladies money from the sale of their house and invested it in "mutual funds" and it was paying her kids school bills. I told this guy that if it is the same stuff he had been peddling that it was definitely not mututal funds. His answer was that if preacher said he is allright then he is allright.

I have talked to people who have gone to fbch for all of their lives and asked them where Kimmel came up with his money or his financial expertise. I asked what kind of business he was in and nobody seemed to know. Another yellow flag. It wasn't more than about ten or twelve years ago and I know for a fact that he was broke. Now, if you win the lottery or inherit money then more power to you but Thom did neither. He was a fixture at fbch; taught a class at night, had a radio program, always spoke at the faith promise push, had an office with his name outside on the window, etc. Almost overnight he disappeared from public view without a trace but I see he still has his picture in some of the SS class activities he attends.

If my sources are correct.....

Thom was originally from the Louisville area where his family was involved with some level of NASCAR - money.  Moved to Mecca - er - Hammond when he was young and married, not sure why.  Became friends with the single Jack Schaap - buddy system.  At one point, he was in debt over his head.  He supposedly found some system by which to eliminate credit card debt like unto Dave Ramsey.  He supposedly eliminated his own debt, found an investor guy who helped him make some money.  Using the buddy system, he got endorsements from the MOG.  He then began travelling doing debt reduction seminars and preaching a one hit wonder sermon.  At the end of the seminar, he would peddle an investment software and ask people to invest with his guy.  Then came the international monies investment opportunity.

His conniving is as old as he is.  Began way before the financial seminars with the old "Hey, buddy, since we are pals, have I got a deal for you."

I could never stomach his debt-free and prosperous living stuff. A lot of truth and good ideas but Thom was not debt free. He eliminated all his secured creditors but had a couple of church people who made him personal loans that he has never repayed.

Whats the latest on Thom Kimmel?

Was he cleared of wrong doing or did he go to jail.

Is he still attending first baptist?

I saw him at Iva Bartley's home going celebration. I have also observed him at the front of the FBC auditorium yucking it up with unsuspecting sheep.

Thom has for years tried to sell me on his latest and greatest fantastic business deal.
I always told him to let me know how it was doing in 5 years. He never came back on any of them. All flops. Long distance service, Used cars, Iraqi Dinar, Internet porn filters, even unlicensed security sales. I feel sorry for Thom.

His relative is the famous Nascar driver with the same last name.

You won't hear this from the company men, but a couple of months ago the FBI showed up at fbch and demanded every detail about Kimmels involvement there. They wanted his computer, the office he used, any letters or correspondence, and the like. I think he is still being investigated but it is moving quite slowly.
