Boy, we really have different taste in music. I always dreaded hearing BH sing that song. It's almost as bad as hearing Whitney Houston sing "I will always love you." I swear, you could use that recording as a car alarm.

This is more FBC memory than HAC, but my memory is of Mrs Hyles singing Sweet Little Jesus Boy at the last  service before Christmas Day.  Most times, the crowd would be considerably smaller as all HAC students were home for Christmas and even many of the FBC members were out of town.  This was a treat for those in attendance for this service.
Yes.

We started a church in Gary, in '96, and by Christmas '97, we had about 20 adults and teens who wanted to go with us to the Christmas concert 6 O'clock hour at FBCH.
The feedback from hearing Mrs. Hyles sing, was that she must have been trained by a black woman.

Always was the highlight of Christmas to me.

Here's another one for you.  Back in the mid 70's, the Sallee's came to HAC to teach.  Every Christmas season,
Mrs. Sallee (Eidson) would sing "Birthday of the King".  She did fabulous on this presentation each year.  Every time I hear this song, I reminded of hearing it at FBC by Mrs Sallee.
One of my first memories of FBCH was the tragic deaths of Mrs. Eidson and Mr.Sallee.
Later, Carol married Brother Eidson, who was my SS teacher one year, and then filled in when Mark Rasmussen bailed on HAC after only a few months as SS teacher, a few years later.
Unfortunately,  he moved away after only a few weeks.
I was very fond of them, and looked forward to having him as teacher again.
And Carol's voice was Heavenly.

I never went on a date off campus. I was always working..........Bucket & Bows  :) Any of Chicago was seen from a bus route.. which I loved

Ooooh...you are in trouble for that crack!

I have no information on that answer...I did enjoy working today I'm not afraid to clean a dirty bathroom....LOL!

I just remember that when I was there the HAC Christmas/semester break was different & shorter than other colleges. As I remember it was all about keeping the HAC students in town to maintain the bus/SS attendance numbers. Or put another way........."It's all about the numbers."

Agree with fishinnut.

I think that was the reason for no spring break. I also  think as freshman you could not go home until a certain time, (Thanksgiving time?), because more times than not the freshman might not come back to college!

PCC got out today for Christmas break, and they are usually the last ones to go back to school afterward

Most colleges take their finals before Christmas break and start a new semester when the students return.  HAC made you return from Christmas break to take finals.  Christmas break was 2 weeks if I remember correctly.

I just seem to remember that the basic theme for hac chapel sermons for about 3 weeks before christmas was having the character to return. Must have been a big problem.

Dr. Evans said they once took finals before Christmas and numbers were way down in the Spring.

Now they take finals before Christmas.
