Since Hollywood seems to be in a bit of a narcisstic melt-down  :) I thought it would be fun to fantisize for a moment---if the story of First Baptist Church Hammond and Hyles Anderson College were to be made into a motion picture, who would play the leading roles. I'll start...

Jack Hyles played by Stephen Collins
Jack Schaap played by Pee Wee Herman
Beverly Hyles played by Meryl Streep (hey, she's played everybody else)
Cindy Schaap played by Lindsay Lohan

Any takers?

How about Tom Cruise plays Schaap?

He would already be in character.

Now you've hurt my feelings.  :(

Normally I don't jump in on this but this would be intriguing. I'll use actors and directors from all eras 1950 on.

The only studio who could do this would be MGM.
The writing and producing would come from the famed Arthur Freed unit.
Because of his creativity, Busby Berkley would direct.

Now for the cast. An all star studded line up
FBC
Jack Hyles...John Wayne
Beverly Hyles...Maureen O'Hara
John Colsten....Walter Matthau
Elaine Colsten...Jane Russell
Ray Boardway...Frank Sinatra
Roy Moffit...Donald O'Conner
Eddie Lapina...Dean Martin
Ray Young...Pater Lawford
Jeff Owen...Fred MacMurray

HAC
Wendell Evans...Humphrey Bogart
Jim Jorgensen...Claude Raines
Mark Rasmussen...Henry Fonda
Marlene Evans...Katharine Hepburn
Darrell Moore...Van Johnson
Jack Schaap...Mickey Rooney
Cindy Schaap...Judy Garland
Carol Frye...Barbara Stanwyck

The Others
Vic Nischick...Steve Martin
Voyle Glover...Chevy Chase
George Godfrey...Martin Short

Fishinnut, please don't go...maybe we can have a Fishing Summit...we'll call Barack Obama. He can broker our summit. We can sit around the table and trade fishing stories...and walk away as friends.

Some of these are perfect!

Jim Backus as Dr. Hyles during the 1980's

A few years ago,  I saw him playing pool on the Brady Bunch and couldn't believe the similarities.
We'd have to do. Voice over though.

I'd post a pic but can't figure out how to do so with this antique set up.

The part of Malene Evans will now be played by Katharine Hepburn.

Tennessean, your list is pretty funny! But I can certainly see where your sympathies lie...

I still like no value's casting of Lindsey Lohan as Cindy Schaap. They have the same squint to their eye and curl to their lip and propensity for wearing a fake tan...

And I liked Phyllis Diller as Marlene Evans better... but if it is the older, shaky Katharine Hepburn, well, then that is good, too.

I'll try to explain a little of the casting. I am an old movie buff so I really found this challenging and a bit fun.
My first choice of Marlene Evans would be Phyllis Diller. They both had the same outgoing personality but someone has to play the part of Wendell who could be believable. Diller did well in films with Bob Hope, but Bob Hope as Wendell Evans just doesn't cut it. If Humphrey Bogart plays Wendell you want someone who really interacted well with him. Anyone who has seen The African Queen would have to admit that Bogey and K. Hepburn were great together and she could pull off a great Marlene Evans.

Also the part of Jack and Beverly Hyles has to have chemistry. No two were better on film than John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Now some of the other actors mentioned would do a fine job. Sir Anthony Hopkins or Harrison Ford would do well too in the role of Jack Hyles.

The idea of The Rat Pack playing the First Baptist Staff would be hoot as well.

Now here's an idea. I toyed with Bobby Van and Debbie Reynolds as Jack and Cindy Schaap, but Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland were as good as they came.

Of course anyone could recognize the 3 Amigos reference although Peter Lorre would win an award as George Godfrey. Bill Murray as Vic Nischick also came to mind.

Lindsey Lohan? Really? LOL

We got Marlene Evans all wrong. You need to find someone that is boisterous!
