I fondly remember playing canasta with my mom as a young girl.

I picked up Canasta from my grandparents, as well.  Not too long ago, I was looking into the history of the game, and found out it was a pretty big fad at around the time they were in the peak of adulthood. Ah, no wonder, I thought.

Of course, now whenever I play the game, I wonder whether it wouldn't be more appropriate to do  it while sipping a cuba libra, with Billie Holiday on the stereo. :)

I picked it up from my parents and my neighbors.

I learned Pinochle from my parents.  We used to play teams (men and my sister vs. our parents).  And we played with the neighbors on beach trips.  Some of my fondest memories involve playing Pinochle under the pier (in the shade) at the beach.  A beach trip consisted of swimming, eating, playing Pinochle, and occasionally just laying in the sun.  But mostly swimming and Pinochle.
