Do you have any good wholesome Christian movie rental recommendations?

The audience/group will be a mix of young and old, children included, so I'd like to avoid any thematic material that's too dark.  It doesn't necessarily have to be something that has been recently released.

The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry.  Much of the plot revolves around 12-year old boys, set in 1970.

I would recommend The End of The Spear although some people have a problem with one of the lead actors being gay in real life (doesn't bother me). It is a fantastic story. Also, there is Facing the Giants which is a decent film produced by Sherwood Baptist Church of Albany, GA.

The producers that did Fireproof have a couple other movies that are good. For adventure with no nudity or bad language the two national treasure movies were good. Also is there a movie called the Secret Garden? I know there is a book, and it is my daughters favorite.

You're not actually going to go to a Blockbuster, are you?  There are some pretty nasty movies in there.  Being seen at a Blockbuster could hurt your testimony.

Do the Christian thing and rent from a service like Netflix.  Then you only damage your testimony with the mailman.

Amazing Grace
The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Jonah
(A VeggieTales Movie)
The Grace Card
Facing the Giants
Ben-Hur

The Encounter Might be good, haven't seen it yet.

Go to a Redbox, they have a new Christian film I have been tempted to rent.
Amazing Love

Anyone know anything about that one?

There is a new comedy film out called "3 Blind Saints" about a trio of goofballs recruited by a con man to "pastor" a church, with the hopes that they will run it out of business so he can turn it into a mall.  The three get a real taste of faith and have to try to shut down the con man's plot.

Some of the Christian movies that came out in the 80's were / are pretty cornball. The three that come immediately to mind are"Super Christian," "Crime of the Age" and "The Pretender," although the latter is the best of the three.

For recent movies, I would recommend Fireproof, Courageous and Facing The Giants. I think those are the only Christian movies I've seen in the past five years. Not a big movie goer, so I'm probably at the movies only a few times a year.

:)

Thanks to all who offered rental suggestions.  We watched a really cheesy short film called Late One Night]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312898/]Late One Night.  It had really bad acting, and a somewhat predictable outcome, but sent a strong message on the importance of our witness in a hostile world.

Like HeDied4U, I don't watch many movies.  Out of the blue people will suggest movies that I should watch and not only will I have not seen them, but usually I haven't even heard of them (and I'm talking about apparently highly acclaimed award-winning movies).  I just don't want to waste precious time on worthless movies.  Having said that, a couple of the movies y'all suggested were ones I have seen, and they were good ones like Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Couragous, etc, but a few that were mentioned made my list to watch in the near future, so thanks again.

While watching a movie can be labeled a waste of precious time - I find the time together as a family or alone with my wife precious when shared around a film. I agree, it seems like such a waste when the film isn't very good, but the time together is cherished.

I personally thought Fireproof was terrible. ;)

I'm interested in knowing what you found so terrible with it.

Watching the movie while my wife and I were separated is what got us back together. Perhaps that makes me somewhat biased, but I think it is a great movie.

Facing the Giants
Flywheel
Secrets of Johnathan Sperry
Breaking the Press

I just thought it was poorly scripted, had terrible acting, and bad directing. The whole movie felt like a bad illustration that was just being given to preach a sermon.

I am not opposed (and actually value) explicit gospel presentation in films, but it needs to feel natural to the movie, not like the movie was written around the message. I have seen some excellent examples of this done in film (e.g. Joshua, A Man Called Peter) and it didn't feel at all like either the presentation or the message was diminished for it. In fact, the message was integral to the film...without ever once coming across as preachy.

I'd say your testimony alone qualifies the film as a success....and I'm sure there are many others that could say the same thing. Praise The Lord! I haven't seen Fireproof personally, although we did show it in our church!

Everytime I see Fireproof I get my tissue........I'm a cry baby :'(

I watched Fireproof alone, after my husband passed away.  I would have loved to be able to watch it with him.

I mentioned The Encounter. Well, this morning at a local thrift store I found it and we just finished watching it. I recommend it. Watch it with an unsaved friend ...
