I'm sure we have all heard a preacher say something from behind the pulpit that made us think, "Did he just say that?" As the "political correctness" works its way into our churches I believe there will be fewer and fewer of these type comments.  So, tell us, what statement did you hear that would fall into this category and if you remember, who was it that said it?

I take it the statement and the one who made the statement would have to be all in one post.

Heard a preacher say something like, "He didn't have the stones to do that".

Heard a black preacher friend of mine discussing being in a Holiness type of church one time where this female preacher wanted to anoint him with oil, all over his nice suit...
He said, "Brethren, I had to get me the "hell" out of there. ???
My jaw dropped, along with a few other church members, but most everyone else was snickering.

Reminds me of a story of a man who came from a rough background.  He got saved and started preaching.  One message he talked about his past and got excited and started cursing.

He caught himself and stopped.  Told the church he would resign.  Church said they appreciated his fervor and asked him to stay and gave him a raise.

I heard a preacher get up and teach that the King James Bible had mistakes.

And this was in a King James church.

Have to give my all time favorite statement from behind the pulpit of  Dr. John N. Hamblin ......"Those who violently lift their hand or viciously open their mouth against God's faithful men very well may have the embalming fluid that the undertaker will pump into their lifeless body on the shelves of the local funeral home at this very moment."  Now that is showing the love of Jesus!!

And here we always think that only TV evangelists are crooks.  Hamblin is just protecting his own.

Reminds me of a young preacher who stated, "If anyone asks you for your church financial statement, mark that man, he is a CROOK!"

Of course, my first thought was any pastor who refuses to give a financial statement is a crook.

What is a church financial statement?  :)

Jack Hyles used to tell that story during sermons.

That was after he heard me tell it.

Even if they don't say it,  they seem to think it.

I once asked the man who handled the church finances for some financial information; very routine, I thought, but I had the pastor approach me a week later to ask why I wanted the information -- apparently, the man over the finances had instructions to report all inquiries to the pastor.

Incidentally, the information I received was terrible - very unorganized with plenty of transfers between accounts that made it hard to see what was going on.

Sounds like time for an audit.

I once heard an older, heavier southern preacher say when referring to a bad hotel in which he had stayed, "The tub and shower were so small that if my wife had touched me the way the shower curtain did I would have never left home".  ;)

Was in a singles group many moons ago, one of the leaders(a graduate of TTU), was at the pulpit and talked about how much he liked women in tight sweaters?

I was visiting a church (not IFB).  I think it was my third visit. I enjoyed the people and the preaching until..,,,,,the pastor included in his sermon how sexually active he was in college.  He said you are forever tied to someone who you've slept with.

He had a beautiful young wife and teenage kids in the congregation. I never went back.

Jo, those definitely hit the "wow factor" button.
