We know that Dave Hyles cannot undo the damage that he has inflicted on many lives.  We also do not believe he has tried to make things right with the victims.  I have never heard anyone say that Dave has admitted to the wrong he has done.  With that being said, what do you think Dave Hyles needs to do at this point in time to make things as right as he possibly can?  Again, no way to fix it, but what would be the correct steps to take to be going in the right direction?

The first thing he would need to do is to stop being involved in any ministries.

Then he will need to take the pulpit on a Sunday morning in Hammond and confess his entire, horrid experience.  Of course, he won't name names, but he will come clean, he will tell how his father shielded him and passed him off to Texas to commit more atrocities.  Of course, he will need to be sincere.

Then he will publicly state that any of his victims can contact a third party (if they desire it) to have a private meeting where he can ask personal forgiveness.

Of course, this is all fiction, but fun to write about.

FBC now does Biblical Church Discipline publicly.  If DH wanted to sincerely take this course there is a structure in place to work to this end.  FBC as a church has no longer the opportunity to take this approach alone because DH is not a member of the church.  This would have to be initiated by DH through the deacon board.

Has there actually been anyone who has been disciplined publicly at FBC?

Multiple times but so far always in the repentant state not the expulsion state.

Has he ever written anything addressing the subject in a Biblical way for the Sword of the Lord? If not, that might be a step.

Personally, I think the guy is a sociopath, but I'm no expert.  To anyone's knowledge has he ever sought treatment?

I have been removed from FBCH for several years.  I have never heard a report of DH admitting to anything or asking forgiveness from anyone.  I have also never heard a report of anyone in authority at FBCH admitting that DH did any wrong.  Again, I am several years removed.  Can anyone dispute this?

Raider, DH can never make it right ..he destroyed so many peoples lives. He can never be trusted....

I agree that DH can never fix the damage that he did.  From a Biblical perspective what should he do at this point if he wanted to make reconciliation?

He doesn't think he needs to do anything to make things right. That is between him and God:

"There are people today who have made it their mission to destroy me and to make my life miserable. They put their own conditions on my restoration and add their words of discouragement on my effort to be what God wants me to be. They say things like, ?I will forgive him if...? or ?I will believe him if...? or ?He cannot get right until...? Yes, they take the role of God and decide what conditions I must meet in order for them to forgive and accept me. Some even tell me that I cannot be forgiven and that God?s grace cannot apply to me. Oh yes, I hear the most hateful and venomous things said to me that you can possibly imagine."

FYI - his twitter account has 18 followers. What a huge influence he is.

By chance, did you happen to 'save' the video where he said this?  It was taken down shortly after it went up.

I didn't take it from the video -I didn't see the video before it was taken down. It is from his blog post:

What a load of tripe.

Anyone who questions him is "self-righteous".

Indeed.

I don't think he is forgiven; if you rape someone or abuse someone and then blandly say "I asked God to forgive me, so I'm forgiven" -- you're not and you're a coward.  You must ALSO make it right with the person/people you wronged.

This is what he seems unwilling to do.

Raider,  I believe he can never be trusted....nor changed

I have heard this quote several ways:

Version 1:
Advice is seldom welcome and those who need it the most like it the least. (Philip Dormer Stanhope)

Version 2:
Unsolicited advice is seldom welcome and rarely heeded. (Unknown)
