the way i understand it u.s intelligence agencies had gotten lured into a false sense of security by how well the gulf war to liberate kuwait had gone and the fact the first attack on the world trade center - the attempt to destroy it by setting off a bomb in the basement.. had failed..... plus the big scare that computers world wide would shut down as the year 2000 struck didn;t happen......... the CIA and other u.s. intelligence agencies were literally asleep at their post in late 2001....

And remember the 9/11 commission found many weaknesses that allowed 911 to happen to include.

  • Intelligence community: The CIA failed to add two al-Qaeda suspects to the State Department's watch list, and did not alert the FBI about their identities. They identified poor communication between agencies as a major problem..


  • Military: There were a lack of military options to deal with the terrorist threat. We were clearly not prepared in training, equipment and doctrine.


  • Borders and immigration: Borders and immigration controls were permeable. It was noted that the Terrorist had no problem getting into the country or in getting flying lessons for that matter.


  • Aviation security: Aviation security was permeable. Lack of security procedures and personel at airports and on the airplanes themselves facilitated the attacks.


  • Terrorist financing: It was difficult to track the financing of the terrorists. Our intellegence agencies dropped the ball in tracking known terrorist groups and their funding. We had fallen asleep to the threat.


  • Homeland defense: Homeland defense was weak or non-existant.


  • Congressional committee: Congress uterally failed in their oversight role of the agencies responsible for keeping us safe. We also failed to fund some of what had needed done.
We were weak and the terrorist exploited it. Today I question if we are much better than we were in 2001.
 
My theory is that conspiracy theories are started by powerful evil people who want to capture the imagination of the masses knowing that they will buy into any ludicrous scenario and waste precious time and energy there instead of keeping tabs on what is really going on. The goal is to distract us from the actual conspiracy going on. It’s the conspiracy that you haven’t heard about that should concern you. 😎

but one day a bigfoot is going show up on a trail camera somewhere.... . he can;t avoid them all forever... .. and after that happens he will know he has been outed ... and he will be doing an elvis presley now and then and showing up at burger king to order a whopper..... ..... remember where you heard it first... someday it will happen....:D

9/11 might not have happened if Clinton had seized bin Laden when Sudan offered him to the US.

But why believe them? Terrorists have a habit of claiming responsibility for acts they had nothing to do with. It gives them free publicity and credibility. If they'll lie about things they didn't do, you can expect them to lie about the ones they did.

Osama bin Laden initially denied responsibility for 9/11, but he later admitted it. Believe him or disbelieve him, and you're still stuck with the same dilemma.

There's a very good book titled The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright that goes into the causes of 9/11, including such things as rivalry between intelligence agencies leading to a lack of coordination, the failure to properly recognize al-Qaeda as a threat rather than a nuisance, and Bill Clinton paying more attention to his own image and legacy.

The road leading to 9/11 was a shining example of the axiom that you should never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.
 
I think it's clear that the valid conspiracy theories, for most here, are the ones we believe.

I would believe and accept this. Truth of the matter is that the CIA (and other agencies) were likely aware but allowed it to happen because it fit right into their agenda.

We believe the very same thing about the Gulf of Tonkin as well as Pearl Harbor so I find it quite plausible. In 1986, they sent our Navy Battle Group into the Mediterranean and our ship specifically crossed over the "Line of Death" and into the Gulf of Sidra. I'm pretty sure they intended us to become the "sacrificial lamb" that would've sparked a full-scale war with Libya! By God's grace, Muammar Gaddafi did not take the bait so here I am at a computer growing old and sounding more and more like a crazy old man! 🤣

Some talk of the WTC being rigged for demolition and that missiles were used at the Pentegon instead of a plane. I do not believe this, they simply let what happened happen and It sparked the intended public outrage giving them "carte blanche" to hunt down whoever it was that did this as well as tightening down our security (meaning encroachment on many of our freedoms) to ensure such never happens again! They did the exact same thing with Covid and you had better bet they will use whatever crisis coming up next to further their agenda.

What ship were you on again?

I was on the Forrestal; we were there after the spring of 86. I'm told we played around in the Gulf of Sidra... I know we did operations off the coast of Egypt in August. We also steamed up by Cypress when that airliner was hijacked.
