Share your Christian Cliches... statements that have been expressed as truth, but are not biblical truth.

God helps those who help themselves.

God will never give you more than you can handle.

God helps those who help themselves.  (New Christians often say this.  I did when I was new.  I thought it was Biblical.)

God said it, I believe it, that settles it!

This one peeves me because of how completely antithetical it is to the teachings of Jesus.

God accepts us the way we are.

And this one is absolutely true.

I hate that one, because it's so NOT true.

...But it is true that He will never give His children more than HE can handle. :)

"If you said this little prayer, then you are saved!"

Praying for a "hedge of protection" around fellow believers.

LOL..... God CHANGES us. There is no such thing as acceptance without change. Thus, you don't stay the "way you are".

Actually the second is false, though it sounds true, thus the cliché...God only accepts us in and through His Son Jesus, He does not accept us the way we are.

Yes...God accepts us through Jesus as we are. In fact, CU is implicitly agreeing with me in his disagreement.

God accepts us, then transforms us. The acceptance is unconditional; the transformation is inevitable.

God is my co-pilot.

Seen on numerous bumper stickers and in forum signature lines....."doG is my co-pilot."  ???

As for cliches I can do without, "If God closes a door, he'll open a window" comes to mind, as does "I'm forgiven, not perfect."

:)

May seem like splitting hairs, but its worth a try.  God's acceptance is upon condition, He only accepts us through His Son, He does not accept us upon our own merit.

I would agree with that. But it is as we are. ;)
