Your friend can't distinguish between theology and good old national patriotism. "America first" is not a theological position. It's the idea that Americans, in particular, our politicians, need to be looking after our own interests before we go out and try to solve everyone else's issues for them.

the bible also doesn;t say "for God so loved one family more than others - - "... ..... ... - but which one of us would not put our own families first if push came to shove? ...or if our families were attacked?.... .. or if it became a matter of survival?....

america is a nation of american families... . it could be said that in a way the nation is a larger extension of all our families... .... and for those of us whose families are in the military - or who do dangerous work in parts of the world not friendly to america.... political polices applied one way or the other can be very much a matter of survival ..... america first policies keep our families safe....

but then again....... if this shane claiborne .... (shown below)....is the same one posted by your facebook friend ... then maybe he would not put his own family first - even if his family was attacked or if it did become a matter of survival... ..his bio is a pretty interesting read.... also very revealing.... .

The sound-byte generation that seems to have A.D.D. is all too willing to share their opinion about the meaning of words, but cannot understand nuance and complexity in arguments. “America First” does not necessarily mean politics Trump (😉) religion, nor does it have to be jingoistic. Heck, it isn’t even new, as it first started in the 19th century. But the cited quote gets lots of likes and Trump Derangement Syndrome groupies whipped into a lather.

And the fact that they don’t want to be called a Christian Nationalist.
In todays social media sound bite speech a CN is anyone who is thankful for the freedoms we have in America.
