Psalms 106:3  "Happy are those who obey his commands, who always do what is right."

With all the rules the extreme Christians have, are they genuinely happy?

The Bible says that Christians should be happy. God didn't save us to a life of misery.

I know some extreme folks and they never seem genuinely happy.

Someone was asking how to reach out to their IFBxer friends and family - well, ask them if they are happy. Truly happy.

If you have NetFlix, watch this movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1613092/

It is a secular documentary but brings up some interesting points concerning happiness that crosses religious, economic and cultural lines.

Yes I believe some IFBX people are truely happy. I attend church with some.

I remember being somewhat extreme back in my early church attending days after i got saved, but my husband was friends with, what i consider a SUPER extreme guy (no Christmas tree, Trick-or-treating was from the devil ect...) from church and things just got weird.
This guy did a lot of teaching because my husband wasn't that faithful to church so he took him under his spiritual wing so to speak. He often bragged about how manly he was too, yet he rarely held a job to provide for his family.
I wasn't really happy that much if ever during this time because mainly i began to believe that my husbands salvation depended upon my obedience to him.  I believed my husband was lost and i believed it was up to me and my obedience to him for him to get saved.
I dont think I was unhappy because i felt it was a huge drag to have to obey the Bible.
I think my unhappiness was due to circumstance in my life.
When I am obedient to Gods word there is so much peace in my soul, it's wonderful!
But I did get to where i felt that if i were enjoying myself or laughing a lot, then i was being selfish or making provision for the flesh.
Like.. I always felt guilty when i was having fun if that fun didnt come directly through a church related activity.
I dont believe it was the teaching at my church who caused me to feel this way, and it certainly wasn't anything from Gods word.
Now I know and fully realize from experience that when i'm living in disobedience to Gods word, I rob myself of peace, joy and happiness.
:)

I just wanted to point it out that it was my husbands friend who rarely held a job, not my husband.  My hubby has been a pretty great provider!  :D

I believe Frag and TRB to be genuinely happy people.  (I know TRB very well, and have seen him weather even self-induced hardships without ever 'getting down').  I know S Anderson very well, and he and his family are very happy people.  I'm sure everyone on the forum considers at least one of these three to be extreme.

I believe you are right about Guy and Frag...they seem to be genuinely happy people.
Which, in turn, ticks some of their critics off...which makes them happier.... :D

As to Anderson, I believe you have happy and looney confused..... :)

Anderson and Beaumont both have the most laid-back, down-to-earth, practical wives, and well-adjusted children, which may be a big factor in their happiness, as well as lending credibility to their 'extremes'.
Lol @ 'ticking people off' being a source of Guy's happiness...all too true.
Guy is a people person, and Steve is a genius, who runs a successful business and pastors a growing church, while battling border agents on the side.  I have had the pleasure of laughing with both of these men, many times, in a variety of situations.  Frag I only 'know' here, but he seems to be consistently positive and happy, albeit fiesty.
FWIW, our admin, who I consider to be extreme in his textual criticism, and very sarcastic at times, also appears to be a genuinely happy person.
Wrap up:  I believe extreme views and happiness can dwell simultaneously in the same mind/ heart.

Are you happy? I am sure that you are considered 'extreme' by someone.

I am happier now than just a few short years ago.

I remember one night I couldn't sleep, the man made rules were heavy on my mind, I had no peace, no true understanding ....

Perhaps I am extreme to come people, but true Biblical Christianity (that is extreme by itself to many) will give us true joy - right?

not really.... like i told tarheel ... i don;t really think of frag or trb when i think of extreme fundamentalists.... :-\ ...... and the only thing i know about anderson comes from that one video i saw of him getting tazed by the border patrol...  ??? ..... .. granted... it was only one short segment of a much longer life which may indeed be very happy... .. . but in that one short segment i saw, he didn;t look very happy to me...  :o ...

but now...  given what i just said about how i see trb and frag... . and wondering what that might mean in the bigger picture of things... ??? .... then remembering that i did giggle... (but only for a moment).. when i saw anderson getting tazed.....  ??? .... .. i am becoming a little concerned that i might be a closet extre....  :-\...  :o .. ... ... no!.... perish the thought...  :-X ...... .. is this why you have sleepless nights timothy?....  stop thinking about this stuff.... ...  :( . .... ...  here....... listen to this.........

Bob Marley - Don't worry be Happy

Sleepless nights when under IFBxer rule ... I wasn't happy. I don't go to that Church anymore ... and I am happier now.

He isn't extreme enough for you, to fill the criteria for this op?
