I have never heard of the band or him...

He's approaching the twilight of his career, it seems. So par for the course. Like the Oak Ridge Boys and the Statler Brothers.

Are you suggesting he became a Christian for the sole purpose of keeping his career alive?

I'm suggesting it's a move that isn't costing him anything.
Over the years, I’ve seen a a number of artist from different genres (rap, country, rock) who have become Christians. It does always seem to happen in the latter stages of their careers, and sometimes the artist is suddenly making “Christian” music. I don’t ever like questioning the authenticity of a person and their salvation, but it has made me wonder at times.

Good for him, nothing wrong with using the skills we have honed through life, and given them to the world for so long, to be turned around and used to glorify God.
