BATTLE STATIONS!!!!

Could a preacher make a living doing just weddings and funerals is he was very good?

You would have to be in good with all the funeral homes and wedding chapels.
Probably not...
I've done two funerals in the last month. The first one there was zero for an honorarium.
The second, which I did yesterday, I received $100. I prepped about 8 hours for the funeral on Wednesday.
Prep includes doing a bulletin with pictures, and sermon prep, talking to the family, etc, getting a video ready (that they supplied).
And from when I arrived at church on Thursday AM to prep, around 0930, until I finally got finished mopping the fellowship floor after the church provided luncheon was about 5 hours give or take a few minutes.
So, 13 hours of labor for $100 is about $7.70 an hour.
Definitely not a lucrative business! 🤪

When I asked the question I knew pastors do both as part of their ministry and they are not in it for the money. I also know I insist on them taking alove gift regardless because ther time is valuable.

I also suspected I would not be getting rich if that was my calling.

Thank you Starlifter and other pastor’s for all you do for your members and your community. It may not be very lucrative, but we church members appreciate it and I believe you will be rewarded in Heaven for all that you do in his service.

You might even do some weekly nursing home chapel services in your community.
You raise up a few and you will be in demand!

I have never laughed so hard. I needed that ..........

I did a lot of funerals when I was in ministry. People would bring their cousin in who wasn't saved, and his wife had died. SPend 5-6 hours with the family, 3-4 hours preparing, 3-4 hours doing the service and everything related to it, even if it was at a funeral home. So often people in the church wanted the church to do it all for free so they woud not have t pay a funeral hime. They think it is part of what they pay the pastor for. i even heard someone say that once. Something like "Isn't that what we tithe for?" But then you hvae to replace thouse hours of study and visiting, etc. Most I ever got was $100. Never did it for the money. I always gave the gospel even if the family was not believing.
