I guess 2024 is going to be a rare year... Two broods of cicadas, XIII, a 17 year brood and XIX, a 13 year brood are scheduled to emerge this May and June from northern Illinois down to northern Louisiana. XIII will be in northern Illinois and XIX will emerge from southern Illinois down through much of Missouri, western Arkansas down as far as the Louisiana border. It has been 221 years since these two broods have emerged simultaneously. The concentration of cicadas is expected to be about 1.5 million per acre or a trillion plus over the summer.
I shared the blessed news with Mrs. abcaines and she was thrilled. Just. Thrilled.
