Would one or two of you show me examples of appropriate music?

Earlier, someone posted a link to the music at First Dallas...which was declared 'contemporary' and I assume wrong and/or not appropriate church music.

Yesterday, someone posted the Nelms service...and the music there was also declared contemporary and again, I assume that means wrong/not appropriate church music.

Those two are a looooong way from each other.

So, show me the right, appropriate, God sanctioned  :) church music!

I dont think it is a matter of right or wrong. It is what you prefer in the church you attend, I like hymns in a church service. But in my car and home I listen to hymns and contemporary. So I would not attend a church service that has contemporary music. Just recently our church has started to put the choir songs on a large screen-I dont like it! And I had no problem voicing my opinion.

Christian COUNTRY AKA southern gospel. GOOD!!!

Makes no sense but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I meant to post this in the Hyles Forum, where it would have some context.

LOL! Done!

When I was a teenager many moons ago, I love the contemporary music of our days. Bill Gaither , Dottie Rambo and gospel music quartets. Of course the older church members thought I was backsliden (TB I know what you would say). The older members wanted only hymnals.

Well fast forward, how time changes one, I like hymnals more now.

But more importantly...were you in tune?

Funny :) I don't sing in the choir. I love to sing, but I don't sing very well.

I don't think you can seriously mention Hyles and "context" in the same sentence...can you?  :)

I don't understand how anyone could be offended by the beauty of songs like "Word of God Speak" or "I can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me.

MERCY ME - WORD OF GOD SPEAK - MUSIC VIDEO

MercyMe - I Can Only Imagine

Awesome songs!
We sing these in my IFB church.

We have also used those songs in our services.
But, I THINK the main problem Raider and some others have is with the congregational singing...or the praise and worship in contemporary services. The praise team instead of the song leader...the style and tempo of music...etc.

Most true contemporary services don't have 'special music' per se...they are worked into the P&W sets....while everyone stands for hours and hours...... :D
