FYI - no one actually calls it the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of America. People just say “I’m going fishing on the Gulf” or “we’re going to the Gulf this weekend.” 🙄

FWIW, neither are the states. Only federal agencies are subject to executive orders. In all official federal communication, the U.S. will refer to the gulf as the Gulf of America. The people and the states are free to have their own official names for things.

So even if the people of Canada apply for statehood, which would be kinda cool, actually, they still wouldn't be subject to EOs.
 
I named a star in Andromeda for my ex once.

And 0h'22" 38°17'31" (as observed in October 2007)

It will henceforth be known as Laura Evelyn...at least according to the International Star Registry, and is published in volume 8 of the International Star Registry catalogue which is registered in the U.S. Copyright office within the Library of Congress.

International Star Registry is not to be confused with the International Astronomical Union, which does the official naming.

Still cool, though.

well then you should still be calling it by it;s first official name given in 1508 ..... seno de nueva espana.... ...or in english... bay of new spain....... that;s what spanish explorer sebastian de ocampo named it when he first noted that it was not just another part of the atlantic ocean but was instead a bay or "gulf" of sorts surrounded by land on at least 3 sides........

but all this renaming of stuff and etc trump is doing is nothing but trolling the democrats who have been on a binge for the past 4 years of arbitrarily renaming military bases, changing flags - and tearing down historic statues in the name of wokeness and political correctness.... .. they had no more right to do all that than trump does to rename the gulf of mexico..... ....

but that;s not the only reason trump does it... . all these eo actions he;s taking that is resulting in democrat rage, are a distraction keeping the dufuses busy freaking out while the real important work is being done in other places.... things they currently don;t have energy left to spend on because they are spedning it all on this...... . ....it;s genius in a way... but wouldn;t be if democrats and others currently riding the rage machine didn;t have their heads stuck somewhere dark hot and humid.. .... i say keep it up and let them leave their heads right where they are.... ..:sneaky:

Near to me, there is a Voice of America park, VOA shopping center, VOA soccer fields, VOA parking lots, etc. Someone (or multiple someones) was successful at getting Google to change those names to Voice of Mexico... Most have been changed back now, but last I looked, there are still a couple VOM soccer fields and a VOM parking lot.

I’d be fine calling it by its original name. BTW, the other day I had a conversation with a friend with some higher level connections. He said there’s a reason Trump wanted the Gulf renamed, but it had zero to do with American pride, but rather with oil drilling rights. I’m not saying he’s correct, but that’s what he said.
