My former Evangelism Prof., the late Calvin Miller wrote in his book, "Letters to a Young Pastor":

I led only a couple of people a week to Christ. Anyone can do that. And it all happened not because I did anything extraordinary but because I did something very ordinary over a long period of time. The secret of what I accomplished was a simple formula: 2 (or sometimes more) people baptized per week x 25 years of tenure = 2,800 members. Not everyone seems to believe it, but at the center of this minor formula for success is tenure. So many of the letters in this book focus on the long haul and the power of sticking to one thing: tenure.

His church members probably attended in order to catch up on their Zs.

If you had ever met the man, or heard him preach, you would realize how foolish that statement was.

God moves as God wills. It's really beyond my control how (or how many) people respond.

Maybe so.  He didn't say he was repetitive.  If he was, and he did that for a long time, it'd put me to sleep.

I would have to say it is not necessarily impossible for him to do this. My Evangelism professor was considered one of the greatest soulwinners of our time. I personally was with him on several occassions when he led people to Christ. It wasn't a 123 repeat after me either. He would spend whatever time was needed and would come back as often as needed until a person understood their need for salvation. He went soulwinning at least 4 days a week for at least 3-4 hours a day. I saw him build a Sunday School class from him and his wife to over 50+ new converts.

However, not every Christian is spiritual enough for this to be their normal practice. I believe you must be so prayed up that the Holy Spirit gives you the direction to know who to visit, what to say, and is with you convicting the person you are speaking to about their salvation.

I believe most Christian when we go soulwinning do it out of duty without much prayer and without the Holy Spirit guidance.
