The lad has disappeared!

I don't know where Smellin' is chillin'.

With the recent scandals it is tempting to take a leave of absence as one can only take so much. But I must say it doesn't shake my faith in the Lord 1 bit. Jesus is still altogether lovely.

I wish Smellin' well.

Been busy. Running a couple of pilot programs at work, end of quarter stuff, one kid graduating, another kid heading off to Liberty, etc., I've been a busy boy.

Will resume some activity when my schedule settles down a bit. I do appreciate all those who miss me though. :)

I have it on good authority, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Smellin in the Pacific searching for the perfect coffee bean to roast and brew.

Crud. So he saw me on the Pacific beach in my Speedo. I tried to go where I wouldn't be recognized...

One of your children heading off to Liberty?
Does your child share your theological views?
I'm no fan of Liberty, but last I heard they had wildly differing views than yours regarding salvation, the Bible, etc. etc.

1. Yes
2. No
3. I don't care. He is an adult and I taught him to think for himself and have always allowed him to develop positions that differ with mine. I am not the source of truth and neither is Liberty. I'm quite sure he realizes that. ;)

No...you need to send him to HAC so they can ensure he turns out right for the Lord!

Oh, I don't know...I was thinking something along the line of L Ron Hubbard's School of Tomorrow or a Jehovah's Witness school of theology, or some place that thinks more along the line of Smellin's theology.
Why spend your money to send your kid to learn a theology that you spend the majority of your time criticizing and trying to prove wrong?

Should your kid only go to an approved college of  your choosing and study what you want?

Or does he have individual soul liberty? Most baptist only give that lip service and don't really believe it or practice it.

I consider Smellin' a brother in Christ and am thankful to be his brother...

Not sure the beliefs of Hubbard or JWs so I can't comment on that. My daughter is going to North Carolina-Charlotte next year. I am not sending either "off to school". They are making their choices (as I trained them to do) and I am supporting them in their choices, even if it were not a choice I would make. If they wanted to go to HAC, I would not protest though I would tell them where I disagree with HAC.

FYI, they are adults paying their own tuitions so I don't see why I need to involve myself other than to let them know the positives and negatives as I see them.

I find it hard to believe that you really "don't care".  What kind of father would say that?

I care about them, just not about their decisions. I am much more concerned about their compassion and character than their theology. My son is more conservative than I am theologically and more liberal than I am politically. He knows he is going into the birth canal of the Moral Majority and he is fine with that. He has grown up in public school and been raised to make his belief system on what Jesus taught through the outside influences of different thoughts. So I trust he is making the best decision for himself. In essence, I don't care where he goes.

And while I appreciate your honest statement, I would also say that my children know that I am "not the source of truth", but they sure know I'm the conveyor of truth.

Though your kids might believe that, you (and I) are not the conveyor of truth either, in a pure form that is. We approach our idea of truth through our own personal biases, backgrounds, influences, etc. IOW, neither you nor I know the absolute truth about every spiritual matter.

The faith of my kids is their own and I taught them to read the words of Jesus and to filter decisions through His teachings. That is a bias on my part and I have passed down. Their decisions might differ than mine but I trust in them and trust in God that He will direct them without my approval/disapproval.

Exactly. I have tried to teach my kids how I see their individual bents and encouraged them to find a school that will help them develop them, if they so choose. I also recommended to them to choose educational pursuits that won't leave them with too heavy of a student loan burden. I have made it clear to them that my wife and I will not be taking out loans for their education so it will all be on them.

We trained them to become adults and to make wise choices in their adult lives. That does not mean that I will deem all their choices to be "wise". However, I believe God has a different plan for them than I could possibly develop so all I do is voice positives and negatives and let them make their choices and I will support them whatever decisions they make.

My kids are really not my kids (though they are biologically). They are children of God. I simply had custody of them for a small amount of time and have turned them (the oldest two) over to God. Whether they choose Hyles-Anderson College or Reed College, I will love them and support them and believe that God is somehow directing their paths. :)

Boy have you been off the reservation for a while.  I feel a bold responsibility to tell you that if your kids don't go to HAC, they will find themselves with child and in jail before the end of the year.  They will never rise up and call you blessed.  They will be a shame to you and your church.  Only the God fearing people at HAC are able to prevent Satan from destroying your children.

But really they should go to Loyola where they can become Jesuit priests and make a living out of harassing Jack Chick!

We know how well that worked out for JH and his kids.
