I was reading the following article online, http://religiousaffections.org/editors-picks/the-sovereign-gracegetty-music-question/ after learning that some folks even believe songs like "In Christ Alone" are not proper ... wanted to see if any article existed along those lines.

Anyway ...

I decided to see what Religious Affections was all about ... found this, "Religious Affections Ministries exists to engage the mind, heart, and spirit through biblical truth. We embrace a robustly conservative view of Christian life and ministry and promote that view through publishing, itinerant ministry, a blog, and other resources."

Got me thinking ....

What is, or should be, a Christian Conservative View?

I believe a Christian is naturally conservative and naturally liberal. That is why I call myself a liberal conservative. :)

Being conservative means not trying new things. I think a Christian view is a Spirit-filled view. I don't think Jesus is against us trying new things but we should still hold fast to that which is good but reject evil things - not everything that is new is evil of course. In our church we have the old hymns but on occasion we have some new songs as well.

Being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry.

The most you'll have to do is get in front of a microphone and say, "I take full responsibility", after which you take no responsibility at all.  But you don't have to say you're sorry.

but i have been called liberal here before... even bleeding heart liberal ..  ???...  and i find myself saying i;m sorry all the time....  :-\ .. ...  but then i;ve also been called a hyper fundamentalist.... depending on who you ask ...  though i have never been a member of a fundamentalist church.. .... so i guess it balances it out...  ;)

Well, I was referring to liberal politicians, anyway.  ;)

I was and am a fan of the late luminaries William F. Buckley, Jr., Sen. Barry M. Goldwater and Pres. Ronald Reagan. And also some contemporary commentators and writers labeled conservative.

Theologically, I like some Christian writers and scholars generally regarded as conservative, such as Gordon D. Fee and N.T. Wright.

But I feel no obligation to always agree with either political or theological conservatives. I go my own way... and try to conform it to God's way (admittedly with very limited success) as best I understand it (and with limited understanding too, as through a glass darkly), but I don't believe His way fits any particular school of human thought.
