If you attended HAC or FBCH for several years it has probably made a difference is some things you do or believe today.  Some of these may be from a positive angle; some may be from a negative angle.  So, Hacker Nation, tell us how HAC/FBCH has affected you in these areas.

*As always, one thought per post.

I believe I am more thorough when presenting the plan of salvation to someone, and I do not try and "force" a decision.  While at HAC I do believe I was fairly thorough most of the time, but I did "push" the individual to say the sinner's prayer.

Still today I use some of the illustrations that I learned from George Godfrey in Personal Evangelism.  His book "How to Win Souls and Influence People for Heaven" has been a great tool for me.

I do my best to teach Scripture in context and not pull a verse out to try and prove something I want to get across.

Well, you didn't learn that at HAC.

He learned things NOT do do there, so now he still practices them.

- That a lot of men who quit the pastorate and "go into evangelism" do so because of gross sin.

I innocently used to think that God would call men from the pastorate into evangelism... but, thanks to FBCH and HAC, I know that such is a common escape route for fornicators, adulterers, and other such men.

- That it is OK to weep for friends and ministries we knew and loved at FBCH / HAC, even though we must separate from the cultish environment.

- That just because you have "a big string of fish", it doesn't mean that you're a godly person.

- It's what a man does in the quiet times, from day to day that make him Godly, not how loud he shouts in preaching.

Jack and Dave Hyles didn't follow this logic!

I remember Ray "Cletus" Young making us write down his quote that "Most men won't bother to use a dictionary!"  I was already a dictionary snob, but never forgot how funny that quote seemed to be!  Hahaha

I believe that a public and sincere apology still needs to be extended to Mr and Mrs Godfrey by FBC and HAC.  They stood for what they thought was right----and it was-----and now, all these years later, others have realized that they were mislead and the Godfrey's were right all along.  The Godfrey's life was uprooted for standing for right and not willing to cover up sin....so  very sad.  With all that had been said to and about them, their faithfulness never waivered and they still to continue to serve our Lord, just as they did in the 70's and 80's at FBC/HAC.

Hear! Hear!

I also agree. I ran into Mrs. Godfrey in the '80's and told her how badly I felt about their treatment, and how right I thought they were to do what they did. I thanked her. I'm sure there must be many who have. I sure hope so!

AMEN!  The Godfreys are solid people who love the LORD and continue to serve Him.  Jack wrote glowing letters of recommendation one week back in the 80's and then as soon as Bro Godfrey called him out, Jack changed his tune!  Jackie Boy's policy was to scorch you if you crossed him--no exceptions whatsoever.  Jack Frasure was only concerned with how anything affected his image plain and simple.  Always the martyr.  Always the saint.  Always the victim.  This was my son, Jack Frasure Hyles.  He was just like his mom!
