Not entirely offended by the marriage points. I have used several of them myself.

The marriage points are offensive, too. Saying that interracial dating at WCBC is considered to be  "unequally yoked" is assuming one is unsaved. But if they both have given testimonies of salvation in order to be admitted to WCBC... well, Chappell obviously is using that verse completely out of context.

2 Cor 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Obviously, by that measure, they should all be in same sex marriages with a partner the same height/weight/etc.

No wonder M.Z. wanted to work there.

I agree: I AM tired of pastors quoting II Cor 6:14, and then ripping "unequally yoked together" out of its context to tell us what THEY think are unequal yokes would be.  II Cor 6:14 tells us that by "unequally yoked together", it is speaking of a believer and an unbeliever.  NOT Christians on different spiritual levels, NOT different, uh, "exotic" backgrounds.

But that pales when I read the section about how, that for the staff at least, the pastor is (apparently) supposed to replace God in their lives: The pastor is to be exalted; one is supposed to die to self and follow the pastor; one is supposed to be prepared to lay down one's life for the pastor.  Sickening!

A good response I found posted to SFL:

“…adopt Pastor’s dreams as our own.”

Ho-lee crap. Did he actually mean to put that in writing?

I mean sure, I’ve seen some form of the preface to that, “We need to die to our own aspirations…” plenty of times, but it’s typically followed by something about living for Christ, replacing our lives with the life of Christ, etc. Die to yourself, live for Christ. It’s the basic formula, right. I know plenty of pastors think they’re God incarnate, but they’re not supposed to actually put it in writing.

Several former members and college students have given testimonies of their experiences on SFL. I will post a few.

I have quite a bit of experience at WCBC and LBC and that is EXACTLY what is expected. Zero self-aspiration. Full devotion to the pastor. Complete trust. Complete loyalty. Nuff said.

I went to WCBC for a time, and a white friend of mine was dating a young African American lady.

When a staff member found out, he went to her, told her that she would basically be ruining his ministry, as many people would not go to church where the pastor in a mixed marriage. He counseled her to break up with him, which she did.

I don’t know if he spoke for the staff, or his own personal biases, but I lost MUCH respect for him that day.

When I was a teenager at LBC (this was before WCBC), the teens were all given a copy of a book called “Christian Dating”. The last chapter was all about how God created separate races and so we should keep them that way. Imagine how that felt to me – my parents are different races. It was so ingrained in me, however, to never question anything I was told by an authority figure that I never once brought it up or asked about it.
It was definitely one of the things that always sat at the back of my mind and helped me along when I finally got the nerve up to leave. My mother is one of the interracially married staff members there that you mention, and to this day I still can’t bring myself to ask her about it.

That is also my understanding of it. I once witnessed a staff member lament how difficult it must have been for this one kid (the sole black teen at the time) not to be able to date…and I was confused because I noticed Hispanic/White couples frequently at LBC. It took me a while to realize he was only talking about black/anyone else.

I should add that my first sister’s first relationship ended because “Dr.” Rasmussen told her that her job offer as assistant to the dean of women was in jeopardy if she was dating him. (He worded it in a way to make it ambiguous as to whether he meant dating per se or dating a Hispanic, but I think we knew what he meant. Especially because he also told her that guys like that were bad with money.)

(his siblings attended WCBC)

Did any of you see the words "not entirely" or "several" in my post?  ???

Obviously not in the black and white, all or nothing world of FFF land.  ::)

Since leaving our former IFB church 10 years ago, I have said it loud and clear, these ifbx'er churches will answer to God for the way they set the pastor up as Jesus on earth.
