OK, it's confession time.  While you were a HAC student did you ever "turn someone in" for any reason?

Nope! But sure got turned in a few times!!

After seeing all of the stinkin' Hackers looking for people to "turn in" I determined that I was going to turn in no one.

I wasn't currently a student (in between being broke and having tuition money) but I had a HAC student working for me who took a power tool without my knowledge or permission.  When I noticed I asked him about it and he said a friend of his needed it.

Well,  I told him to return it immediately.  He did not.  After weeks I wrote Dr. Evans a letter about it.  Unfortunately (for my friend),  between the time I mailed the letter and the time he got called in, he returned the tool.  I thought he returned it because of the letter, but when I saw him a week later I knew that THEN he was called in!  He got a royal chewing.

Oh, he wasn't working for me by the time he was rebuked by Evans and he and I are currently "friends" on Facebook.  He's a good guy just made a dumb mistake.

I had a roommate who had a picture of himself receiving oral sex from his girlfriend hidden in the dorm room.  I happened to mention to the dorm sup that he should look in a certain place next room check.  Never saw my roommate again.

What year was that?

I turned myself in - twice.

On both occasions, an incredibly nice staff man saw me breaking a rule with bigger consequences.  Both of these men approached me later and had a conversation.  They were respectful and kind.  They felt bad about it, but told me it would be a violation of their employment to not turn me in, but they really didn't want to because that is not why they are on staff.  They suggested that I turn myself in because it would be seen better by the disciplinary committee and it would not hurt my reputation so bad.

On both occasions, I told Mr. Highfill who was shocked that I would turn myself in.  I told him about the kind staff member and figured that the crime was worth the punishment anyway.  I didn't want to cause those guys any more stress than they already had in their life.  Sure enough, RH just shook his head, recorded the demerits and told me to have a good day.  No meetings.  No other repercussions.

I did evening room checks my last year of schooling because the Dorm Sup worked 3rd shift.  I was not staff.  I only had one rule....."don't get me in trouble."  I would overlook anything (staying up too late, wrong people in the room ect.), until their behavior would come down on me.  My motto...."Just don't get me in trouble" ;)
