A pastor friend sends morning thoughts several times a week. This is from this morning.

*****************

“He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. ”

Luke 24:46-47 CSB

While our primary purpose is to glorify God as human beings, our primary mission is to proclaim that there is forgiveness of sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus through faith and repentance. The passage only brings up repentance, but it is impossible to genuinely repent without faith. Repentance is turning from sin and turning to Christ. It is the turning to Jesus that is the very essence of faith. This mission started in Jerusalem and continues today. One of the most essential aspects of discipleship is evangelism. Proclaiming to the Gospel is the mission for us. The people around us need to know that their sins can be forgiving if they would confess their sins to God and turn to Jesus who died and rose from the dead. It is that simple. We complicate it and ultimately talk ourselves out of our mission. The power is in the message, not the messenger. "Lord Jesus, help me to be on mission today, looking for opportunities to share Christ with others."
