Tariff Defender

Bessent has largely endorsed Trump’s pursuit of tariffs, though with some caveats.
...
Recently appearing on CNBC, Bessent stated that tariffs are an “amazing tool,” but would need to be “layered in gradually” to ensure that higher prices show up over time. The increase in prices, he noted, could be offset by disinflationary policies like reducing regulations.

He’s Called for a ‘Shadow Fed Chair’

Last month, Bessent suggested that Trump have a “shadow Fed Chair.” This would mean nominating Powell’s successor before his second term is complete.

“You could do the earliest Fed nomination and create a shadow Fed chair,” Bessent said. “And based on the concept of forward guidance, no one is really going to care what [Fed Chair Jerome] Powell has to say anymore.”
If Trump were to employ his three-point economic proposal, the Fed could then transition “into a proper easing cycle.”

BTW, I don’t see why we needed a separate thread for this….

Incidentally, Trump is credited with being the first US president to hire an openly gay presidential cabinet member in history (emphasis on openly gay). https://thehill.com/changing-americ...p-names-the-first-openly-gay-person-to-a/amp/

I’m just old enough to recall the furor of Clinton’s AG (Janet Reno) being constantly questioned, mocked and attacked for being a “lesbian,” though she denied such, and no proof ever existed that she was such. https://www.tampabay.com/archive/1993/02/17/stigma-of-a-middle-aged-single-woman/

So, the question becomes, does Trump get a conservative pass for this because he’s a “Republican” or has society changed so much that it no longer matters?

As far as I'm concerned, that's not where the battle is being fought...not yet anyway. And it probably never will be again. I said in another thread that these next four years are only brief respite from the slide into absolute despotism. DEI and the rape culture we call 'trans' are merely the fruit of the toleration Sodom in society.

The only real hope is a revival. Perhaps God will send some preachers.

I wouldn’t argue it’s a bad thing, but it certainly is a thing worth noting. I appreciate the idea of merit—itself a very anti-woke, anti-DEI concept. If Trump believes a gay man is the best fit for the job, then I’m fully supportive so long as he’s being picked based on merit and not sexual orientation. However, I do believe the church and the FFF from a couple of decades ago would have been in an uproar if President Clinton or George HW Bush had nominated an openly gay man who had a partner and a couple of adopted children to boot. Just saying….

Of course, and rightly so. In doing so, they'd be legitimizing and advancing an agenda widely recognized as deviant, unnatural and perverted. But, the ground has already been ceded and the front lines of battle have been moved.

I would argue this nomination is not a good thing, but that's not where the fighting is at the moment.
