It often seems as though.....

Those who teach salvation by works, or salvation by making Jesus the Master of your life desire to then live the Christian life without any adherence to regulations or submission to mastery but rather attempt to live the Christian life as they individually please, or, as is right in their own eyes.

Those who teach salvation is by grace through faith alone then live the Christian life according to the strictest of rules and regulations, often without an emphasis on personal relationship with Christ, and approach struggles with sin and levels of separation as something they have achieved to show God their love for Him, rather than living by grace through faith alone.

It seems both sides of the coin are guilty of believing one doctrine for salvation, yet another for Christian living.  Why is this?

Fundamentalism.

Leadership was selected by a litmus test of works, done in a Bible College setting.

I guess I'm an exception. I preach that salvation is by grace through faith alone, and live pretty much without rules.  :-*

God's love is a greater rule, and those who are filled with it need no other.

True dat!  :D

But I think we all still need to bear in mind Jesus' 2 Great Commandments.

You can call me antinomian (Auntie Nomian?) but you can't call me inconsistent.  :P

Preach? When? Where?

I don't actually have a pulpit, other than internet forums and such. But I do have in mind to maybe seek ordination someday. Since I haven't finished my BA yet, and my denomination(s) pretty much require an M.Div., that's at least a few years off.

Therefore you're a promiscuous antinomian who smokes and drinks, lives in constant sin and flaunts it!

(Okay, now our resident Pharisee doesn't have to respond.  I did it for him.)

Perhaps they just don't read or study their Bibles. Just saying.

ok.......some quick quirps and one proclamation of self.

I was really hoping for a better response.  Has anyone else noticed this trend?  As I have lived among Fundies who preach salvation by grace through faith, they live a life of works in efforts to please God.  As I have meandered among various other Baptists, they teach salvation is by making Jesus the Master of your life, but live a life according to their own rules and denounce that God has any rules for them.

Why the flip in philosophy after the point of salvation (no matter which side of the coin they are on)?

And I don't know of anyone who lives by "Jesus as Master of your life" (which is not salvation by works) who believes this means anything goes regarding morals.

Although I do know plenty of the other type, but then, God as the giant vending-machine-in-the-sky is very popular among evangelicals (including IFB'ers).

This is pretty much what I was going to say.
