I am wondering how far I can take my new found liberty in Christ. Should I, in good conscience, be able to take my family to a water park this summer?

What would be your motive for going and why would you not go?

I doubt your motive would be to watch the bikinis.  I suspect it would be to swim and have a family fun event.  So why would you not go?

Only if you know the IFB Managawd and his Informers won't catch you.  You also need to watch out for the WagginTungs.

Oh, yeah.....and the FlappinGums.  They can be the worst.

"his Informers"  written from experience I suspect.

It's just one of those things I have been told my whole life was wrong, and I figured before I tear down the fence I might want to consider why it was built in the first place.

It's sad to think that people have to worry about stuff like this in IFBdumb.  I'm glad my Dad pulled our family out of that mess when I was a teen.

Self modesty is the best policy.

I go to the beach, water parks and even the pool sometimes. I don't personally attempt to join some people in wearing "revealing apparel".

If I worried over catching a glimpse of something I shouldn't see.... I'd never go to the grocery store or the gas station. I'd have to hire a devout Muslim man to bring my gas to me.

It was built so they could keep you under their control.  Tear it down and burn it.

Wise decision.  Your family (kids & spouce), most likely have been told it is wrong also.  They will also need to know why if you go or don't go.

I was faced with that same situation while I was still in the xer movement.  Communication within the family made the decision very easy.  It also helped to lead us away from the movement years later.

Congrats to your dad!!!  I am sure it came with a price but he did the right thing in my opinion.  I bet you have a good relationship with him today.  I also suspect it would not be so good had he kept your family in the system.  Once you graduated and moved out on your own it would be.......

I love water parks, I love the slides, the water.
But I abstain from going b/c I don't care to be around people that have less than 1/3 clothing on.
I realize that we are exposed to indecently dressed people wherever we go, but at a waterpark I would be literally inundated all around by indecently, immodestly dressed people.
There would be literally no way to escape the temptation to lust except to keep my eyes closed.
I have personally not arrived to the point where a scantily clad female would not tempt me to lust.

Two: I have children that are approaching teen years.
Even if I was so spiritual that I didn't lust, my children most likely aren't.
I know what was going through my mind as a teenager.

Third, I don't want my children to dress immodestly, so I'm not going to a place where no one is dressed modestly and be a stumbling block to the opposite sex.
If it were a place where girls only swam with girls, and guys with guys, I would have no problem.
But to think that immodestly dressed people don't cause others to lust is patently naive.
Like I said, everywhere you go, walking down the street, at a store, you'll find immodestly dressed people.
But rarely do you see skimpy bikinis and people non-dressed to the limit out in public.
Yes, you do see them, but going to a water park surrounds you and your family with them and increases your chance to think unholy thoughts immeasurably.
Just my opinion, but an opinion, I believe, based on Scriptural principles.

That was a while back (I'm 52 and he's 75) and yes, we have an outstanding relationship.

Fortunately, my son and daughter never had to endure that nonsense.

...except Walmart.  If you go there, you should do your godly duty and stop.  Wouldn't want to start throwin' out lustly vibes, would ya?

You like the slides and the water but only in long pants and long sleeves?
I realize that we are exposed to indecently dressed people wherever we go, but at a waterpark I would be literally inundated all around by indecently, immodestly dressed people.
I've been to several water parks. I haven't seen anyone with anything exposed that would normally be considered "private".

This would be a good personal reason to avoid water parks. It doesn't mean water park attendance is wrong.

Perhaps...
Third, I don't want my children to dress immodestly, so I'm not going to a place where no one is dressed modestly and be a stumbling block to the opposite sex.
See previous point.
If it were a place where girls only swam with girls, and guys with guys, I would have no problem.
So if it was nothing like reality? They have those beaches some places...mostly in extremely Islamic countries.
But to think that immodestly dressed people don't cause others to lust is patently naive.
Immodestly dressed people don't cause others to lust. The evil in the heart of the one lusting causes it.
Like I said, everywhere you go, walking down the street, at a store, you'll find immodestly dressed people.

See above...again...

Again...sounds like good personal reasons to avoid the water park.

lol!!!  I had no idea of your age or background.  I am glad you and your dad have a great relationship.  I hope that has passed down to you and your children although I suspect it has.

Exactly what I was thinking. I see more skin in our local Walmart then when I ride past the local swimming pool.

I think the keyword in your post is "Christ." As we grow spiritually God reveals to us through the Holy Spirit what He wants us to do. If you are walking with God and asking Him for answers He will give you the peace as to which decision is right for you.
