I always thought his beliefs and teachings were a big part of the problem.

"It is always distressing when a spiritual leader acts contrary to his beliefs and teachings. But spiritual leaders are men, susceptible to sickness, weakness, stumbling and sinning. Faith thankfully is not in men, Faith is in God. Please pray for those you love and all those affected by my actions"

I find it distressing to see a Godly man fall like this because the needed closeness to Christ, that I find hugely vital to perform pastoral duties, was obviously very small and probably non-existent.

Just out of curiosity, why do you refer to Schaap as a "Godly man?"

I forgot the quotes .... "Godly Man"

Once again, my poor written English gets in the way. I was simply referring to his position in the public eye.

Understood.

Another thought: Maybe God allows these men to experience such public humiliation because their ministries are such a humiliation to Him.

What Godly man are you referring too?

Good advice. I hope I haven't come across as holier-than-thou in anything I've said. My opinion of JS's ministry wasn't shaped by the events of the last month or so. Based on the limited exposure I've had to his teachings (writings and sermon clips (maybe not really representative?)) it has been my opinion for a long time that he really doesn't understand the power of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life. Some of us have already fallen in our lives because we were as arrogant and convinced of our own superiority as JS seems to have been. It's a hard landing even without prison. My prayer for JS is that he sees that this wasn't just a mistake but the natural outcome of his whole wrong way of thinking. He doesn't just need to try harder to be good. He needs to understand the transforming power of the gospel in a way that is foreign to him.

That also applies to the people of FBCH. They have been taught wrongly for a long time. They don't just need a different pastor, they need a different view of what Christianity really is. I'm afraid, however, that they will keep doing the same old same old with a different MOG in the pulpit.

The message of Christianity in a nutshell.

This is excellent!

If they didn't obtain his confession within the law, I'm concerned they may be able to throw it out

Just so we're clear, when the Shaft Polisher talks about "spiritual leaders," he means himself, right?

Risible. And probably wrong on both counts.
