I know of a church that just recently voted their pastor out. His adopted Philipino son, who is in his 20's came out and said he was gay. As soon as the church found out the called a meeting and voted the pastor out. The pastor found out about his son when the church did. The church immediately turned on the pastor, and all but a few people voted to kick the pastor out immediately. dou you feel this was the right or wrong course of action and why? Just looking for people's opinions, and thought process.

Sounds rather silly. If the son had been a teenager it might make a difference due to

1Ti 3:4  for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church?  (ESV)

I don't see how a father can manage a 20 something adopted son.

It really sounds like there are other factors somewhere. Maybe past issues played a role and this was just an excuse to do what they had been meaning to do for some time. Happens all the time. Often the Scriptures are just an excuse to deal with "Personality Conflicts" among the average church hierarchy.

I hope there is more to the story that we don't know. If not, the congregation is wrong. You can't hold the sins of an adult against anyone else. It is his choice, and his alone (I'm assuming he is active in the lifestyle, not just expressing how he feels).

Of course, if this pastor had done a good job of teaching his congregation how to love others well and walk alongside them through messy times, he might not be in this position (I know, that's a pretty big assumption on my part).

Well, if I were that pastor, and the church tried to vote me out for such a silly reason, I would resign whether the vote succeeded or not. I'd want no part of a place that would even take the idea seriously.

Just going by what information you provided...the church was wrong.  But I am not surprised because so many of our churches have ceased to be a place of redemption..and turned into a place where the religious deadheaded sanctified few demonstrate their lack of care and understanding of the Scripture.

But then again, there could be more to the story, we don't know, so it is hard to make a clear determination.

^This.

Church was out of line, maybe they need to read what a church is supposed to be about from the BIBLE
