President Jimmy Carter

I count it an honor and privilege to have personally known this man. I got two opportunities to meet him and converse. He struggled in his capacity as President of the United States, but he exalted Christ in his life, and used his capacity as both President and former president to help so many people around the world. Rest in peace, sir.

I might watch that. In the trailer there's a clip where Carter admits his son Chip lit up with Willie Nelson in the Whitehouse. Not something that a Christian father would/should find humorous in my opinion.

I don’t think he thought it was humorous that his son lit a blunt with Willie in the WH, I think he was indicating that Willie pulled one over on him by saying he did it with a “White House servant” when in fact it was his own son. That was my interpretation of that scene.
 
For Huk's sake, I was in the 5th grade during that election. My dad voted for Carter, because Dad was a union member, and unions vote Dem.

Our school held mock elections that year, because Social Studies still had remnants of Civics, and I too voted for Carter in that 'election,' because I knew Dad supported him.

Carter won our mock election.

My older brother only time he ever voted for a democrat was for Carter. I have not let him forget it either after all these years

Definitely harsh, not so sure about the fair part, especially considering this article was written by the president of the SBC, which Carter famously divorced himself from. Aside from the Camp David Accords, really nothing positive is mentioned.

I do agree with this quote: “Already some are arguing that Carter was, counter to most previous judgments, an unappreciated success during his years in office. Historians will claim that the verdict on the Carter presidency remains unsettled. But the most important verdict on a presidency is made by voters, and they conclusively settled that argument in 1980.”

It is unequivocally true that we must judge a candidate based on the voice of the voters. After all, in this country, the law is ultimately The People, and our system of government is designed for even the Constitution to be flexible. But, historically, presidents are judged differently, hot, temporary voter passions aside.

The article mentions the moral failings of Nixon, which helped propel Carter to the White House, but the mess actually started with a corrupt vice president prior to Nixon’s fall, which was Spiro Agnew. Nixon just added to the hot mess. I was impressed with the fact that Mohler mentioned the fact that Carter took over a dumpster fire of an economy when he became president. Unfortunately, although Carter had made some positive strides economically, the inflation remained high, but I find most Americans are quick to criticize Carter for the economy, while failing to mention the state of the economy he inherited.
 
this is actually the first time in many years we have a legitimate reason to fly the u.s. flags at half mast - the death of a u.s. president.... in this case a former president ... but still appropriate - and in keeping with historical tradition.... .... in my opinion and the opinions of many others flying it half mast for terrorist attacks only encourages more attacks.... ...and disasters - whether natural or man made - need for people to be able to look up at the flag pole and see the flag flying proudly at full staff... .. lets them know their country is still here and still standing..... ready and able to help. .... .... ... that;s the way it always was for 2 centuries ... ..what made it change?........ i have never been able to find out.......

I was a baby when Carter was in his last year of presidency, so I certainly had no say one way or the other, but nearly all of the states we today call “conservative” voted for Carter. Reagan’s 1980 victory pretty much permanently changed the makeup of the map. By the way, you can thank VP Agnew and President Nixon for Carter being in office to begin with. 😁 1735607286633.png
