If many are not aware, there was a shooting today at our nation's capital, from the reports it appears as though the gunman/men may have been trying to enter the Conservative caucus (our governmental structure is different than the US, but it might be the US equivalent of the Republican caucus of the House of Representatives along with the President)

It started at or just before 10:00 AM EST with a soldier being shot at the National War Memorial and then an attack followed at the Parliament Building (our White House). Currently one male suspect is dead, although news is unfolding.

This was on the heels of a hit and run near Montreal Quebec in which a man described as "radicalized" struck two soldiers with a vehicle and was shot by police later as they tried to apprehend him. The man was known to police as "someone who might commit a criminal act for terrorist purposes".

Prime Minister Harper was scheduled to give Malala Yousafzai honourary citizenship today. Malala Yousafzai is a Nobel Peace Prize winner from Pakisatn who was hunted and shot by the Taliban among others things for her advocacy for womens rights in Pakistan.

The event has been cancelled as Prime Minister Harper has been placed in a secure location until further notice.

Praying for my country today.

I've been praying about this since I first saw it in the news.  It seems like a developing story...we don't know exactly how deep this goes, yet.

Mamy people in my country have a problem of overvaluing our "peaceful" ways to the extent of considering ourselves immune from the problems of the world. It is a naive view. I expect an increase in military spending and presence on the world stage.

Praying for our Canadians friends.  I'm thankful there was a good man with a gun in the Parliament Hill to stop the gunman.

Only in America, would a radical Islamist Army Major, who screams:          "Blah, blah, blah, allah" as he massacres other soldiers, be considered to be just an angry coworker who lost his temper.

Kevin Vickers is indeed a brave man. Many people think that the Sergeant at Arms is only a ceremonial role, but he is in fact in charge of security at Parliament Hill.

He was an RCMP Officer for 29 years including 10 years of service in the Northwest Territories. (Kinda like being an Alaskan State Trooper, same size area, only 1/5th the population.)

Very grateful for his service both past and present.

True. John Kerry still cannot bring himself to using the word "terrorist" about this situation.
