Does anyone know of anyone who went through the Pastor Refresher course at HAC, who was never in the ministry before, but someone who had a college degree of some sort other than Bible/ministry related, who became preacher/pastor & who has stayed in the ministry any time at all?

Just wondering?

I can name 1.

I can name a number that burned out quickly.

Correction to the above: That 1.....he a recipient of a honorary degree from HAC.

I know someone who was a part time (I believe) asst. pastor to Dr. Trieber, but they ran him out on a rail.  He then went to HAC for the pastor's refresher, went out and started a church.  He was there for about 20 years but is no longer in the ministry.

I can also name 1. Has pastored for 31 years and same church for last 27 yrs

Yeah, Mark Turner.  Not sure about Treiber running him out.  He graduated with me.  I too have the Refresher Diploma.  I've been in ministry both full time and part time since.  I'm not sure if the OP is a slam against those who took that route or not, but for me, I had 3 years at HAC and decided to "opt-out" and go for the Refresher.  That was in '89 and the best decision I made.

John DeKryter also graduated in our class and pastored in Indiana for many years until his wife passed away.

I have a photo of those of us that graduated with a Refresher diploma.  I'll post it if I can find it.

Interesting.....very good.

I may not have made the initial post clear. I have known a number of Pastor Refresher grads who had been college grads with secular degrees (not ministry related), who had a desire to be in ministry & were allowed into PR course. PR was all the Bible education they ever received. Those I know about did not stay with it or make it.
