Netflix took a big hit in subscription cancellations after co-founder Reed Hastings publicly announced his support of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Hastings also announced a $7 million donation towards a super PAC supporting Harris, which resulted in a spike in membership cancellations as Netflix subscribers banded together on social media to boycott the streaming giant.

In the days following the July endorsement, the cancellation rate nearly tripled in the United States.

July was already a month with high cancellation rates, following Netflix’s decision to get rid of its lowest priced ad-free plan, with subscribers canceling at a rate of 2.8%.

Despite prior unusually high cancelation rates, the days following Hastings’ endorsement still stood out as conservative subscribers opted to spend their money elsewhere.

That must have been short lived because 3rd qtr subscriptions for netflex are the highest they have ever been, their profit was out the roof and their stock price has hit several all time highs. The company is worth 327 billion dollars. They are the 22 largest company in the S & P 500 and Reed Hastings is estimated to be worth 4.6 billion dollars.

He has his right to his opinion and it does not seem to be hurting him to express it.
