Its been a number of years since I was at the Mt Salem Revival Campground, way back in the boonies of WV. Back then, as I recall they had a big plaque on display about Jack Hyles and Joe Boyd (the camp's founder). In fact, back in the day, the camp was quite proud of their association with Hammond.

Since that time, I've heard that Randy Taylor and the camp has slowly distanced themselves from FBCC/HAC.

Any takers?

Not ready for a 2 hour invitation at this time.  :)

I remember Randy coming to the Adams chapel on Saturday evenings to get approval for various things he was doing at the camp. This was in late 80s to mid 90s. I think he was under the impression that we had a lot of money to spread around and he was coming to get some. Well he didn't get very much and he stopped coming regularly to get approval of his projects. It was a convoluted set-up. I think he only came a couple of times after jack schaap was pastor. He did not get any money and stopped coming to see us.

Amen to that. I forgot about those marathon invitations. Can't say I'll miss them.

Last one I was at, occurred at Gomez's Church, GSA conference.
Bro. Hyles preached a sermon he had never preached at home
(He preached it a week later @ home).
It was called "Misunderstood Repentance".
Randy got up and unpreached  the sermon for forty minutes.
Of course, we were supposed to stay standing the whole time, for some unknown reason.

I walked out.

They told me it went on....
It may still be going...

Spent parts of two summers there as a teenager. I traveled with Joe Boyd, and we would be three weeks on the road and one week at camp for the summer. Not coincidentally, I met my wife there after I was a pastor on a July 4 JH special patriotic service.

I missed all of those long invitations. Randy Taylor was just taking over when my time with Joe Boyd was done. His vision for the camp was one to train preacher boys. Randy's was a wider vision, and they transitioned it into a regular church camp. But I never attended any service there run by RT except for that one July 4 day, and that one did not have a memorable invitation.

I always found RT to be a good and warm man. He was always kind to me. I loved Joe Boyd to death. Can't wait to see him again in Heaven. Mt. Salem was, in every sense, a blessing to me.

My experiences at Mt Salem were not so good. Both of our kids attended Junior and Teen camps. My wife and I usually drove over on Wednesdays.  Both of us had worked all day, grabbed a quick bite to eat and drove over an hour to Mt Salem. We somehow endured two preachers both trying to preach better than the others. As a preacher myself, I remember thinking how much these guest speakers weren't preaching to the juniors/teens, but rather was trying to impress Randy Taylor and/or Oliver Araiza.

Then came those invitations. I got so mad (and tired). The invitations I remember, the speaker wouldn't stop until all the juniors/teens had come forward and made a decision. Talk about fake sincerity. My kids both told me they went forward because they were tired and hungry and wanted the service to end. I never went forward, but I felt the same way.

There may have been a few, and I emphasize few, sincere decisions made at the camp. But alot of the juniors, I suspect, made a decision for full-time service just so they could ring that stupid bell.

I'm glad my kids have no interest in Mt Salem Revival Campgrounds. Neither do I.

The last time I heard Randy Taylor preach was at a God Save America meeting.  He was the first preacher and Gomez was to follow.  Taylor preached so long and hit everything so hard that Gomez got up to preach and said, "I'm not going to preach tonight.  The man said it all".

I don't hear much about Randy or Oliver any more.  Does anyone have an update on their ministries?
