Does anyone know if the parents of Jack's Schaap victim has sued him or the church? Or were they quietly paid-off?

Or did they just decide to get out of public view and move on with their lives?

Yes.
Insurance paid damages. It's settled legally.

Spiritual settlement is still an open question.

Did they?

This is the first I have seen of a settlement. Staff at FBCH basically delivered her to Schaap and counseled her to give her life over to him,  so I suspect this would have been crazy expensive for the insurance company had it actually gone to trial.

Any details of the actual settlement?

Good point. I understand pastoral/church liability insurance in the event of counseling gone bad...but how can a insurance company justifiably pay out in the case of a church employee convicted of having sex with a minor?

E and O insurance.  (Errors and Omission)

Negligent hiring or retention - they knew Schaap had problems (hey, we've seen video of bizarrely sexual sermons) and were warned about other abuse, yet they did nothing.

Employers are generally liable for the actions of their employees while on duty. This not only covers Schaap's actions, but those employees who basically set the victim up for abuse.

All details are sealed by court order. No information is publicly available. Family is moving on, did not want it aired publicly. No one outside of the insurance company and their attorneys, the court and the family knows what the settlement was. No one at the church knows.

Perhaps one lesson FBCH will learn about keeping corrupt employees is that it makes their insurance premiums go up and can make it harder to even find insurance.

Not that this will make Wilkerson take a closer look at some of the people still employed by the church...little seems to have changed.
