Just One More Example in a Long Line

Oh my! That's awful!  :o

Stuff like that, and problems with some of their doctrines also, are why I've never visited Mars Hill even though I live close to it, despite being a fan of Mark's books and at least some of his sermons on video.

Saw the same thing play out--and got caught up in it to a degree--at a non-denominational church we were members of. We've heard the same stories in many different types of churches, from x'ers to contemporary. The common denominator seems to be a leader who is convinced he's right (usually under the guise of following God's leading) and is able to, through intimidation and manipulation, rid himself of any dissenting voices. That's one of the most frightening aspects of the pastor as the Man-of-God mentality. Should a pastor be God's voice to the people? Absolutely. Does he have any more authority to speak for God than any other mature believer in the congregation? Absolutely not.

Just goes to show that abusive leadership can and does exist outside of IFB-dom.
I would bet that Driscoll and Mars Hill Church would remember and interpret the facts differently.
