"Several passengers jumped in to help and brought Osbon down in the forward galley. One female flight attendant suffered bruised ribs during the struggle. According to one of the passengers who assisted, Osbon said 'pray f---ing now for Jesus Christ.' Osbon also yelled jumbled comments about Jesus, Sept. 11, Iraq , Iran and terrorists. He also yelled, 'Guys, push it to full throttle,'" the affidavit stated.

"He wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone," Lawyer said. "He's a kind-hearted, generous, loving teddy bear. It's totally out of character for this to happen to him."

Another longtime friend, Bill Curley, said Osbon is a Christian who has become "increasingly" religious but wasn't fanatical.

He also made comments about not going to Las Vegas because it was full of sin. Landover Baptist has already picked up on it and ran with it.

Wow, I have never heard of Landover the Rainbow Baptist. Wow.

I don't think the co-pilot missed the mark when he told air traffic controllers that they needed to be met with medical services.  Sounds like the poor captain was having a real medical problem.  Pilots are normally very self-controlled people and for him to exhibit such bizarre behavior sounds like more than a mental breakdown.

Scary - but it doesn't put me off flying (though I've never flown before) . Statistically speaking it is still the safest way to travel.

Christians are not immune to mental illness. But to have a sudden psychotic episode without any previous warning? Very unusual.

Maybe he caught an unusual virus or a parasite somewhere and it manifested itself at that moment.
Though sources now say he had a panic attack - but why? What provoked it?

Wouldn't surprise me if that nut DeaconDixon from the other forum was a participant at Landover.  I wish their spoofing had no basis in reality but unfortunately there are Christians like Fred Phelps and that Koran-burning nut in Florida Terry Jones that give them all the ammunition they need.  They'll seize on this incident to exploit true Christianity, because it's what they do.

They'd have to be morons to put this guy in the same category as Phelps and Terry Jones - Those people have a reputation for what they do and at least in the case Phelps do it on a regular basis.
This airplane pilot (emphasis on pilot and not pastor) did one thing that was unexpected.

The way Landover views Christianity, there really isn't any difference between the three.

He could have had some traumatic event in his life recently, or in the life of someone close.  That can trigger such an event.

He was a long time competent pilot.  He probably had a chemical imbalance.  (went crazy)  We don

I read about that, sounds like it must have been scary for the pilots. There was a flight attendant that recently had a similar episode.

Gotta wonder about snapping under the current stress that must be associated with this kind of job. I'd imagine it must be extremely stressful to work at a job where you're that high off the ground with nowhere to run in the even of someone on board turning out to be a terrorist. Just knowing it has happened and could happen again would make me pretty paranoid, having to think about that possibility every single flight.

I feel bad for them. If that happened during a flight I was on, it would probably throw me off flying for a very long time. You're putting your life in the hands of the pilot, so if he loses it, it's pretty impossible to feel safe, especially combined with having the thought of terrorism already in the back of your mind anyhow.

How very sad for all involved. I hope he gets the help he apparently needs.

I'm not sure what his faith has to do with this though. Anyone can break down or have a mental illness, though I'd hope that when it comes to jobs where the employer has the safety/lives of others in his/her care, mental illness would be taken into account before they get that job. I'm sure there are many who would disagree and call it discrimination, but logic has to come in somewhere. There are certain jobs that people should be allowed to take mental or physical disabilities into account for when making hiring decisions.

I heard he was a Cincinnati Bengals fan! Or...was that Cincinnati Bengals llinebacker...???  :D

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that he will not be a pilot in the future.

(Well, maybe his brother will split wood, and he'll pilot!)   ;D

Agree on both counts.  Christians aren't immune to a variety of similar sins or consequences of the human condition.  But unfortunately, folks like Landover, Richard Dawkins, etc, will exploit such matters to further their anti-God agenda.

Charging him with a crime, as I read they might do, is nonsense. So is blaming his religion.

Yes, again, agreed on both counts, but I ain't surprised that both happened.
