Should we take a request like this seriously when he owns about $500k in Bosendorfer pianos and could sell his current fleet of buses to out of state churches to help raise money?

The state's info seems to indicate he has significantly more time to replace these buses than he says in this video.

Should churches have to make real cuts, or just keep up the fundraising? When you have to appeal outside your mega-church for money, isn't it time to reconsider your budget?

Like I've said before, churches aren't churches.  They're businesses.

Does the church have business meeting ? Where you can see where the monies are spent....

No.  But, they do have public fundraising where you can stand to indicate you will give $1,000.00, or....  Once all of the needed money is promised, the service continues - praise God.

I hear there are scalpers outside the church who charge $2,000 per ticket.

If there are no business meeting and the people keep giving that is where you save your money and really help needy families.... I would not give where there is no accountability... I don't listen to this speaker....

I find it ironic that he is asking for $30,000 for screens.  He's the guy that literally wrote the book on what's wrong with screens.  Now, he seems to be changing his tune.

Money and power corrupts.

Hardly worth writing a book about an irrelevant opinion that had no Scriptural backing whatsoever. Worse yet, spending money buying such a book.

This is the guy who tells his church members to come to church with your Good Book, your Song Book and your Check Book.

When I was in hac I heard jh say several times in his preaching as gas started to skyrocket in price; Shut the lights off if you have to! Turn the AC off! But keep the bus ministry going. Sounds good but while preaching that they were cutting out busses and routes. I was in the bus ministry for one year and we would quite often go on Sunday Morning to the bus and have one bus for about 4 or 5 routes and it was first come first served.

I found it disturbing that our pastor had a super ambitious $$,$$$,$$$ 15 year development plan (one he won a sabbatical from a really liberal organization for!) while much of the bus fleet ran on bondo, prayers, and volunteer mechanics.

Now this is hilarious!!! But of course it's not unique. On so many things the "IFB" will preach against it today but accept it 20-30 years down the line. (In this case faster). A product of preference versus Bible. And to be fair, it's not always just the IFB.

That is priceless... I went and looked for it and found it. And he has the gall to blame a dead architect. Perhaps he should just say, 'I used to be against screens but now I've changed my mind' but instead he has to say, in essence, 'we built this brand new multi million dollar building so poorly that lots of people can't see'. Funny. I just don't believe the second one very much...

BTW, I'm one of the rare guys still around against screens, but I can't stand this kind of duplicity. If you change your mind, just admit it...

This is the same guy who sent away his pervy relative after he got caught abusing teens, only to bring him back after he thought the statute of limitations had passed. I am not seeing much evidence of a conscience with him. IMHO, of course.

I find it interesting that he is trying to save the bus ministry. This happened to the church I was in back in the late 90's and he reduced the bus ministry from 8 routes to 2 virtually overnight and never added another route after that. I was captain over one of the remaining routes and the bus was still a bag of bolts piece of junk. But we still bought our new screens and Apple I-Mac to run it. Having said that, I still love the bus ministry and appreciate that Dr. Trieber wants to save it.  He could simply drop it and save himself a lot of heartache and expense. I wonder if he has looked into a leasing/ rental option?

Seems to me spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on redundant and ultra-expensive pianos was more important to him than buying several buses. Selling off $300k in pianos could net him six $50k buses. He could always make room in his budget for 1-2 newer buses each year for the next 9 years (the latest deadline to replace old engines in CA). Time to reconsider assets and budget before holding his hat out to those outside his mega-church.

No doubt he could sell the pianos.  How were those pianos purchased?  Did he raise money fro multiple donors?  Did just a few people kick in to buy them?  Reason I ask is b/c when we upgraded our sound system, a few people donated some large chunks of money to pay for it and it would be unthinkable to sell it except in the most dire of circumstance. In our case, it would hurt several people who gave the lion share to pay for it.  And then, no doubt, there would a thread started here about the legalities of some evil, self serving, power hungry IFB pastor making the decision to sell something that was paid for by designated funds in order to fund one of his pet projects! :D
